Title: anybody use Howard Hill heads?
Post by: Justin Falon on May 02, 2008, 08:26:00 PM
Recently, I got a gift in the mail of a howard hill head that I requested on this site.  Great head.  Does anybody shoot there great heads and if not, why not?  I do understand that they are more difficult to sharpen.  Thanks.

I tried them could not sharpen them well. They flew very good. I think if you file them it is the best way to sharpen them, good luck.

I got a dozen about 10 years ago but I had the same problems as many in that I cannot sharpen them.

...and they do fly great.  ;)

I've used them for years and they aren't any harder to sharpen than other heads, but because of the concave blade edge,  I use a round chainsaw file.  File from back to front and it puts a jagged file edge that is very sharp.  A good head, very tough on bone.   It doesn't rate as high on concrete blocks as other heads do,  but then I don't hunt concrete very often.  They fly very well under all conditions.

The "wheelie" sharpener from Simmons does a great job of sharpening them.
