Title: 24th Tennessee Classic
Post by: Pat B on December 19, 2021, 11:07:51 PM
A little early but been getting a lot of questions on dates from people wanting to make plans and vacations and such. It will be April 29/30 May 1st 2022. It is usually held on the first full weekend of May except on years when the first full weekend in on Mother's day and that is this year , so it's a week early. Hope yall can make it, always a good time for sure. For more info, directions/ motels/about the club and other dates check out our web site[twinoaksbowhunters.org] or give me a call [cell 615-456-5961] home 931-362-3717] or email [[email protected].]

I've been going to the Classic for about 15 years but missed the last two do to CoVid. I'm looking forward to getting back to Twin Oaks and the gang. I have really missed my annual pilgrimage and all my friends that will be there.  :campfire:  :archer:  :archer2:

The classic will be here before we know it but I don't know about that "Iron" Buck looks like a lot of broke arrow in the future for someone , question is am I smart enough to not shoot at it? ;{

I was 3/3 on the iron fox last year, proving the saying it’s better to be lucky than good! Will give the iron buck a try or two. Thankfully my aluminum shafts are cheap.  :goldtooth:

Joe, the official dates are April 29, 30 and May 1 but folks start showing up the Friday before; better chance at a good camping site then. The 2 official 20 target courses won't be open until the official shoot dates but they have a 40 target practice course plus plenty of target butts. Venders usually start coming in about mid week and the bow shop is always open for building selfbows. Again this year, they will have the "Selfbow Challenge" where you buy a stave(hickory) from the club and with the help of many experienced selfbow builders you build a selfbow and on Sunday morning the Selfbow Challenge shootout begins on the regular competition course where the Selfbow Challenge participants shoot against each other for trophies.
The concession stand opens on Friday for the weekend and on Saturday evening is the potluck supper where everyone is invited to eat. The campfire is always going and firewood is available for free for campers and camping is free. Your only real costs is the shoot fee($20 I think) and food. You and your son can have all the rest of the fun for free.

From Pappy this morning. Plenty of firewood for the Classic...
":) :) :) Got the big trees down without hitting anything important so i am relieved  :) we got them cut up and ready to split and add to the wood pile, the oak was much larger than it looked standing, ??? had to break out my 28 inch saw to cut up the trunk, should make a lot of wood, now headed down this morning to clean and burn the limbs, we made quite the mess but going to be a lot of very good firewood so worth the trouble. 1 more big cherry tree to cut close to the cabin, when it is down on the ground safe I will feel much better. :) :)"

See ya soon Kurt, I checked out the camp site this morning already thinking about how best to set up this year    I think Antony & Dan are planning on camping at the top of the hill again with me   I need to make sure there is plenty of room around the fire!

You never can tell we might break out a 5gal Dutch oven of cobbler one night and might need the extra space !!

Rain has finely stopped for a while so headed to Sam's for the last of the supplies[I hope] and then to the cabin to spread mulch, just in case it rains on the Classic, ???  mulch ant a fix all but it really helps. Then a meeting Saturday to finish up the ranges and a few other little things that need to be taken care of, running out of time so guess we better get at it.  ;) :) :)

In 24 years I think there have been 2 or 3 years without rain. It's nice when it's dry but rain has never "dampened" the Classic. One year we had 14" in two days. Now, that was a classic Classic.

From Pappy...
we are Blessed with a lot of big targets and go all out on this event on setting the range, I think last count Saturday we had around 130 targets in the woods, there is 1 main target at most of the stations [42] to shoot , the rest are just for looks although they do get shot at.

Looking quite forward to the Classic...planning on attending Thursday thru Saturday.

A cherished opportunity to visit friends that I may see only once a year and often times even longer...a special opportunity to make new friends that share the same passion and the opportunity to enjoy my personally favorite event of the year.

Am looking forward to meeting up with Calvin Smock of CD Archery who is bringing me a CD WF21 riser. on Thursday....hope to shoot it Friday and Saturday.

I'll be leaving for Twin Oaks and the Tenn. Classic early tomorrow morning. I missed the last two years and have been jonesing ever since. The weather looks pretty good through the weekend although it might be hot on Saturday. Anyway, fun will be had no matter what. If you get a chance, come join us. You won't regret it, I promise.
Everyone driving, please have a safe trip.
Until next Monday........    :campfire: :archer: :archer2:

Appears to be an exceptional turnout. Twin Oaks has a unique way of consistently generating a most friendly atmosphere, extremely accommodating, complete exceedingly entertaining and completely fulfilling trad event to be remembered for years to come.

Back for day 3 tomorrow.

I offer my sincere gratitude for this special gift that Pappy and the Twin Oaks team continue to provide.

I just got back about 4pm today. I took lots of pics but I'll have to sleep for a few days before I can post any. I am pooped!
I think Pappy said 674(+_) just slightly less than last year but more people there. Hardly any parking places after Friday. It was a great success.

Paul, it was such a treat to meet you and your lovely wife Susan in camp. Not only are the both of you witty and fun, you are excellent mates on the target trail. Congrats on doing so well with your selfbow on the course.

The target setups were amazing, obviously set up by astute observers of nature. Everybody seems to have taken pics of my favorite, the impalas gazing at a would-be predator. I guess if the lion had been female, the antelope would have been running! Another that I liked was the three foxes squabbling over a cowering bunny. Go ahead and fight, boys… I gotta run!

I forgot to mention, aside from the practice course, which I shot with My Centaur, the comp course was shot with Bernie Dunn’s bow, “Someone Special”. It is an ACS, which I purchased from him many years ago at ATAR at Lake Stephens, WV.

It was a special experience for me, sort of having Bernie along at a shoot that he never got to attend, though we had talked about it. Although I missed a few, Bernie shot very well.

Killdeer, I recognize you from these pics as someone I saw out on the range. Always a bummer to know I missed an opportunity to chat with a fellow Tradganger.

I saw Scott Sanders on a few occasions, but never got a chance to chat.

Sorry you didn’t chat up the dumpy old lady on the course! Will be at Baltimore next week, another great shoot.

I want to say a loud, clear, sincere THANK YOU! to the wonderful members of Twin Oaks Bowhunters for their seemingly tireless efforts, their patience in answering the same questions over and over, smiling as they performed grunt work, and making this shoot the smoothest-running, funnest event that I have ever attended. You make every attendee feel like an honored member of the family, something that cannot be attained by mere professionalism.

Y’all are awesome, in the common, but not adequate vernacular.

Friend, I missed seeing you.
PatB, always an honor and a pleasure.
If some guy who looks kinda like Columbo is cooking up walleye, do not eat it! Notify me and I will dispose of it in a safe and proper manner. :readit:

Incredible trip this spring, new tent, new friends, parenthesized by fishing in the National Forest and many hours of firegazing and listening to birds and frogs. Saw the prettiest Northern Water Snake ever, and a Louisiana Water thrush which seemed to look wistfully over its shoulder at me as it made its busy way upstream. Almost like a friend’s longing gaze as its life briefly touched mine.. again.

Great accounts and pictures!

My daughter lived down the road from this event in Clarksville, TN for a few years. I never attempted this event, I had no idea it was so elaborate.  I even had a meeting during the event once but didn't shoot.

My bad, for sure.

I did see Miss Katherine and walked over to her. However, she was engrossed in a lengthy conversation so I did not wish to interrupt and thought I would catch up to her later. Unfortunately, it did not happen. I was disappointed.
