Title: Bow wood search, what and where?
Post by: Plainsman on December 12, 2021, 09:19:24 PM: Im planning a multi-state trip next summer and will be driving from North Dakota south, then east to South Carolina. I will be able to vary my route there and back as I dont have to be anywhere specific at any specific time.

I was thinking of trying to collect some osage orange for self bows, then realized, I may have some other woods I could collect as well!

Also, I wouldnt mind finding something for some primitive arrows as well!

So do you have any suggestions on woods I could look for along the way and where to look?

I’ll have an F-150 and can haul sizes accordingly!

Usually there is lots of bow staves available along with other venders and the workshop is open to anyone until Fri(29), Sat(30) and Sun(1). On those 3 days the bow workshop is only available to the folks that sign up for the Selfbow Challenge. I believe after 6pm on that weekend the shop is open to anyone and that goes on until the last man standing. :thumbsup:
As soon as Pappy posts the official announcement I'll post it here on the Bowyers Bench and on PowWow.

The Trees Database is a good reference on where to look for specific species, state by state. Of course you might not be able to cut where the listings are, but it can get you in the vicinity.
