Title: stos BH
Post by: geno on May 02, 2008, 03:56:00 PM
Can someone tell me if the stos bh sharpens any easier than the zwickey. I want to get it scary sharp and cant do it with the zwickey.I am looking for a 2 blade that sharpens EASY with a diamond and ceramic steel maybe a hit or two on the stone. Thanks

Yes...big time.

I don't use the tools you do but a STOS isn't much more than a touch up job.

it do's sharpen easier than the zwickey.finish it off by honing it on plain ole cardboard.but in my opinion the ace or magnus sharpen easier than the afore mentioned.plus i had a stos hit rib and curl up on me once.just my penny's worth

I agree with twotimer on magnus and ace sharpening easier-but i mostly shoot stos and I really like them -none have ever bent on me, altough I have had a magnus one blade bend one the shoulder of a moose once.

I think they both sharpen easy.  A good file and a steel and a little leather.  Shave your arm clean.

I think the STOS sharpen easier because they have a straight cutting edge instead of curved.

i use a diamond stone to sharpen mine--easy as pie. zwickeys are easy on that thing too.

I use a G5 Sportsman sharpener (but there are dozens of other makers of sharpeners like this one out there) that has the two carbide blades set on an angle. Pull the BH across it 5 to 10 times and you're ready to kill. The mistake most guys make when using a sharpener like this is using to much pressure. Lite strokes = a sharp edge. Simple

$5.00 file is all you need for STOS. For razor edge touch up on ceramic or diamond after file. If you are woried about tip curling just file tip to chisel edge and you'll be good. Love my 160gr with 125gr steel insert. Best broadhead in the lower cost category.
