Mine is Warren Womack. He hunts for fun and meat. Love his videos.
-
I’d have to go with Bisch! He hunts using my brain and eyes and my hands and my bows! I get way more fulfillment out of me being in the woods rather than watching someone else out there doing it instead!!!!!
Bisch
-
Probably have to Go with Fred Bear . But I do like those Wensel Brothers too.
-
Howard Hill.
-
Yea your right Gordon how could I forget about Howard Hill .
-
Jack Howard. I mean, the guy tested each lam for a limb to match not only stiffness but bend radius & characteristics. Besides, anyone who names a bow Game Master Jet is at heart a poet.

Now there's an answer I didn't expect, but I like it :biglaugh:
Put "Lex" in there instead of "Bisch", and I don't think I'd have any real problem with it.
I do like to watch stuff from the Wensel brothers though, good fun, good ethics, and I usually learn something very useful.
Best
Lex
-
man there are so many past and present however i love to listen to Barry Wensel and also the Dick and Yote Robertson.
-
Wow, I've never even considered something like this. I've had favorite bows, but not anyone who shoots them. :dunno:
-
Kenny McKenzie :)

Well, I can’t tell you when the last time I watched a hunting show was, and I don’t do fb,Instagram, or Twitter, so I couldn’t even tell you who the newer “celebrity “ hunters are! I am just a guy who likes to bowhunt more than just about anything else. There isn’t many things that get me more excited than seeing my fletching disappear into some critter I just shot at in just the right place!!!!

We all should be our own favorite bowhunter! There can be and is many people we admire, and look up to. We should respect ourselves and enjoy the hunt.
:campfire: :coffee: :archer2:
-
Fred Bear for sure, but I think cuz I have watched his videos at camp every season for years now over and over and over. Also for what he has meant to the traditional community and bow hunting in general is outstanding. True class act!!
-
Good answer Bisch!! I also have more fun doing than watching. But in evenings and when I can’t be out I enjoy reading and watching.
-
Roger Rothhaar and Nathan Steen!
-
loved Roger Rothaar too.
-
All the guys and gals on Trad Gang that have or had a positive influence on the live style I love and live that is Traditional Bowhunting.
-
I’m with Bisch, I don’t idolize anyone. I see the contributions of many and respect them. My fav though has more to do with his personality. I met Barry Wensel at a sports show. I couldnt care less about celebrity and gave him a little ribbing. The man came right back never missing a beat. Very personable. Bet he’d be a fun guy to share a camp with. The Wensels as well as many others have def contributed as well.
-
"Fred Bear showed me how" :archer:
(anyone remember that....??)
-
No real favorite here, I admire anyone who takes game on a regular basis with a recurve or longbow !! I wish I could do it !!

Any of my Shrewhaven buddies. These guys are not just there to help in camp or the woods but they’re there everyday in life if you need it. Some of us started barely knowing each other but now they’re like brothers.
-
Fred Bear
Ron LaClair
Roger Rothhaar
Wensel Bros
I've enjoyed watching and reading their work. There's others too...Ken Beck
-
I really enjoy reading stuff by Gene Wensel, Fred Asbel, and I think hunting with Barry Wensel would be a hoot. I’ve met a few more guys here that are great as well.
But how can my favorite bow hunter not be the guy that introduced me to bowhunting, gave me my first real hunting bow, and took me along on countless bow hunts. It has to be my dad. Reuben Savaloja. He had such a passion for hunting and certainly passed that on to me.
-
A lot of Bowhunters I look up too, but as a boy growing up in the 80s, Barry Wensel was my hero, Roger Rothhar as well. But my Dad and Uncle Steve introduced me and taught me to hunt.
-
Definitely my dad! He was the one that got me in the woods, helped put me on deer when I was young, and helped me drag my first ones out. Love my other buddies that hunt, but no one will replace Dad!
-
Damfino! There have been so many well known and respected archers it is hard to pick any one that is more respected than all the rest. As a kid I saw more videos of Fred Bear than anyone else. But, like some of the others here, I would say that my respect is stronger for the average guy who practices hard, hunts hard, and is very conscious of the law and strong ethics. My favorite bowhunter is the unknown guy who lives up to these qualities day by day.
-
Love my other buddies that hunt, but no one will replace Dad!

-
Bow Doc, with Gary Hall as a close second.
-
Robert Carter and Chris who hunt Horse Creek in Georgia.
-
Roger Rothhaar. Best whitetail bowhunter in my eyes. And a real gentleman.
-
Loved Roger as well. Just look at his clothes. Love it. The real deal. And a gentleman is right. I remember years ago he was our guest speaker at our banquet. When he got there it was late and guys were asking question after question and he sat in the lobby of the hotel and answered them all. will never forget that.
-
JR, I ordered both of Roger Rothhaar's books in the mid-1990s and talked with him a while on the phone. Then after reading them I called and told Roger how much I really enjoyed his books and talked to him some more about bowhunting. Both times I talked to him he answered my questions and never rushed to get off the phone. Then a few weeks later this autographed picture for me came in the mail. This picture dedicated to me now hangs in my game room, It's one of my prized possessions.
-
You mean besides me? :dunno:
-
That is awesome buddy. Not many like him left that hunt to hunt. Most just want to make money. Love that guy.
-
Howard Hill
-
Not sure I have a favorite, but will say the most interesting stories are the ones about Paul Shafer.
-
One of my favorites and always admired his story’s and photos is Mike Mitten
-
Two of my best friends, Crispin Henry and Dendy Cromer from GA. They're not famous but they're as good at killing critters with a stickbow as any I know. And Robert Carter of course. All three are good men too.
-
Roger

I wouldn’t say that I have a favorite, but being an active member of the PBS and Compton’s, I’ve gotten to know and become friends with a lot of our more well known Bowhunters as well as a lot who aren’t as known but are every bit as good. I have a ton of admiration for Gene and Barry, The Mittens, Monty Browning, Brian Burkhardt, Bill Terry, and a bunch of others and I’m proud to call all of them friends
-
My favorite: ME! I get more enjoyment out of me hunting than watching others hunt.
That said, I learn from all kinds of hunters including those who don't bowhunt because I simply love the great outdoors and getting into nature. I read and learn from a lot of the great bowhunters like Bear, the Wensels, Hill, etc. I also read about Teddy Roosevelt's hunts, studies from Game and Fish research, conservation based stuff, field guides, listen to Joseph Von Benedikt, and other notable hunts/hunters. I also share in the struggles and joys of local hunters, especially children of my buddies who need a little encouragement in the field. It's much more about a lifestyle than just being a fanboy of a certain person.
-
I like many who are dedicated to the traditional way working hard to take their harvest.
-
I agree with that too Todd
-
ben pearson, howard hill, and byron ferguson
-
Aron Snyder is one of my faves. That guy just flat out gets after it with the stick bow!
-
Go Go Gophers
-
Well.. I like Bisch and all, but probably not my favorite bow hunter :biglaugh: I do like me pretty good, but for a good time, I enjoy watching Cody Robbins show. He has a ton of passion and shoots/hunts some really unbelievable deer!.. well him and Fred Eickler. Both of those guys are genuinely very passionate about hunting.
BigJim
-
I don’t have a individual favorite but do admire Barry Wensel, Monte Browning, Mike Minton and Alan Altizer among others all these guys have taught me a lot through their books, stories and videos
-
Bob Swinehart
-
Well.. I like Bisch and all, but probably not my favorite bow hunter :biglaugh:
BigJim
Dang Jim, my feelings are hurt now!!!!

Mine would have to be Barry Wensel and swinestalker. Travis Murray.
-
Larry D Jones .... :clapper: :goldtooth:
-
Mr. Warren Womack has probably been the most influential on what little success I’ve had.
His short videos and reading of his journal notes have been what’s led to more success in the woods at least for me.
And I would second Robert Carter who use to post on here pretty regularly. He always struck me as the salt of the earth kinda guy
And my good friend Corey Bailey must be mentioned he’s a getter done type of guy whether at 3D’d or in his hunting.
I believe both he and RC were also influenced by Mr. Warren.
-
My Dad, he gave me the love of Bowhunting and traditional archery.
-
I’ve really enjoyed G Fred Asbell’s writing, stories, and instruction - not to mention his Bighorn bows are the best.
-
And I’m very blessed to have Marv Clyncke in my life and a true friend.
-
And my best hunting buddy, Jim Anderson.
-
Finally, who doesn’t admire Uncle Barry!
-
Jim Hart, Lafayette, Indiana.
-
So many greats out there ! Some great ones mentioned.
Thought I'd mention Doug Bourland . Especially if you're a bear chaser.
-
there are some many great characters in bowhunting and they are all great contributors to the sport. but the first name that came to mind was fred eichler. he has such enthusiasm for it and such a great attitude hes a great example for how to really enjoy bowhunting.
-
My favorite bowhunter is my long time friend and mentor, Ron Laclair ! He taught me so much and he was the best woodsman. We spent many a hunt together and he was the one who got me started shooting longbows! Thank you Ron and you'll always live in my heart and you'll always be my HERO !!! Tom Rogers (Horserod)
-
"Tarz" Terry Green is my bowhunter idol - and trust me, I ain't suckin' up to the Boss.
I have been fortunate to have hunted with Terry a bunch and his archery, bowhunting, and woodscrafts skills are second to none.
Plus, Terry's just an all around good ol' fun boy to boot!  :campfire:
-
i would have to say howard hill and fred bear. but i also really enjoyed watching tred barta, suprised he hasn't been mentioned yet.
-
Not really the fan boy type, but I love Don Thomas writings
-
My favorite bowhunter is Tom Jenkins, better known as " Rooster" Tom exemplifies what a bowhunter really is. He has no other hobbies or interest other than bow hunting. No matter the season or the animal he is hunting, his weapon of choice is his recurve bow.
Tom is also a bow hunting historian. Ask him any question about a well known bow hunter and he'll give you the answer without looking it up from his notes, it's locked in his autobiographical memory.
Tom is responsible for putting together a hard cover book on the first 60 years of Michigans bowhunting history. A truly remarkable book that will enlighten many future bowhunters how bowhunting was started by Fred Bear and others in michigan.
I have hunted with Tom and his father Tom Sr. in upper michigan for many years and I can say without a doubt that Tom is the best tracker and woodsman that has been my pleasure of knowing and hunting with.
Tom is not a well known bowhunter but that is the way he wants it but to his friends and those who know him and have hunted with him Tom is at the top of their list....he certainly is at the top of mine.

The closest thing to the black plague I’ve ever witnessed on hogs and other game

I second that nomination. Tom is the epitome of what Michigan bowhunting is all about. I have learned 90% of what I know about bloodtrailing deer by watching and listening to Tom. I actually named my Black Widow recurve "Rooster" in his honor.
Sitting with Tom in camp at ShrewHaven and just LISTENING is an absolute honor.
And only Tom and few guys will know....when you find a set of stairs in the swamp...climb 'em :biglaugh:

William Negley - Fred Bear - Mike Mitten

My son. Hunts for all the right reasons, loves traditional, and is a pleasure to spend time with.
I give the guys that got us here (Bear, Rothaar, Wensels, Pearson, Asbell, etc) tons of credit, not impressed with the modern day video warriors I guess.
