Anyone wanna help me get set up with measurements for a 3 lam 68 inch bow?
Looking for about 50 lbs.
I'm thinking a very slight deflex/reflex setup
I got some yellowheart I wanna use for the belly.
Maple core and hickory backing.
-
Belly lam 1/4" thick with no taper.
Core lam 1/4" thick, tapered from 1/4" thick at riser to 1/16th thick at tips.
Hickory backing 1/8" thick no taper, must be straight 1/4 sawn with no run outs or imperfections.
1 1/4" wide at fades with a straight taper to 1/2" wide at tips.
Mid limb posts spaced half way between end of riser and tips.
4" post at center of riser, 3" post for mid limb posts, 6 inch limb tip posts.
YOU MUST PAD THE HICKORY BACKING SO THE CLAMPS DO NOT INDENT IT.....
I ALSO PAD THE BELLY LAM FOR SAME REASON....
Wrap the entire bow with plastic wrap after it's glued up.
-
Stupid newbie question...what are limb posts?
-
The 2 posts placed at mid limb, and the center post at riser.
That is an all wood bow form unlike the forms guys make for glass bows.

Roy to make the same bow but 35 pounds . What would you change ? I am thinking that I might try to do one.
-
Make the belly lam and core lam 1/16 th thinner to start.
-
Perfect SetUp Tutorial, Roy!!

Thanks Ken..

Thanks, Roy... I copied and saved your directions... I got some bamboo laying around and may try my hand at a tri-lam one day...
-
Rich you should try one someday, I'll bet you will enjoy it.
Lay the high tech thoughts aside, forget about speed, and just create a sweet shooting trilam.

I want to make one for a fun shooter.
Was hoping to get wood shafts and make up my own arrows as well. I like the idea of painting up some cresting. Gotta get back to work so.i can afford the stuff

Is there a formula somewhere that dictates how to calculate the wood required for the lenghts and thickness to get the desired results?
Do I owe another $19.99?

Yes, it's called experience and trial and error:)
Wood isn't as predictable like glass bow stacks.
10-4 on the $19.99

So do I send it to [email protected] :biglaugh:

Some of my friends prefer to shoot glass recurves. They were impressed by how quiet and forgiving the tri lams are.
I shoot any type of trad bow without much preference, but my quietest bow and the one I’m most accurate with is an old bamboo backed and bellied 70” tri lam with a cherry core.

Wade, I live about five minutes away from Galt Sportsman Club. Some days I can hear them shooting. I have shot 3D there. They have a really nice course and I’ve been thinking of joining.
You should check out the price of land in the area. It’ll make your jaw hit the ground. 😳
