Does this sound right?
I'm shooting a Black Widow PL Longbow. I'm pulling 50 lbs. at 28 inches.... I have a consistent anchor, but not so good a release. I'm shooting 28 1/2 wood shafts spined at 60/65... It has a 145 gr. field tip...
I bare shaft and get pretty good results most of the time/ not the best release.. I shoot 3 fingers under if that helps.
I need a shaft that is 29 1/2 long for hunting. I'd like to shoot the Magnus 2 blade head that is 1 1/2 wide. I think it weight 135 grs.
So what spine should I go with? I need 29.5 long back of point/ shooting a 135 gr. broadhead. Pulling 50 lbs. from the black widow longbow (cut to center but not past)....
The shafts I'm shooting now fly real good with feathers on them....
Bring it on.... I'm listening...
Steve:
I would select 65/69 spine. You are right at the upper end of your usuable spine range with your arrow length and point weight, so go up one spine to 65/69
Bob
I don't have very much experience with matching arrows to longbows, but what I've heard is you need to have a lighter spined arrow for a longbow, than you would for a recurve (because recurve is center shot, and longbow is not).
Like a 50#@28 recurve could get away with shooting 60-65 / 65-70 arrows, but a 50#@28 longbow might need an arrow spined around 50-65.
I'm sure all the old time archers on here will give you much more accurate advice in a few minutes. lol
I'm a fan of the big Magnus head, I believe you'll find them much friendlier with the higher spine Bob recommended.
I agree with Bob, I'd go at least 64/69 if not higher...PR
I shoot the same poundage bow and I shoot a 29" arrow with 165 grain broadhead. My arrows are 65-69# spine and they fly great. So I would also agree with Bob. Plus he really knows his stuff when it comes to wood arrows!!
