Title: ILF conversion plates
Post by: Daz on September 28, 2021, 03:59:43 PM
Well, after years of high country abuse i had a set of limbs come apart on a three piece longbow. I love the riser and think now it may be a good candidate to convert to ILF.

Who makes the best inserts to convert a wood riser to ILF?

I would think you would need a Milling machine to do the job correct.
Some have done it with a router and other things.
I have 28 years Tool and Die and Machine work experience and can't come up with a way to make them without a Milling machine.
Only a couple of members here have done it 1 time I think.
Pow Wow maybe able to help with the inserts  :dunno:

Lets see some pics of the riser from all angles  and info like length, width, pad angle...

Thanks gents.
The riser is 16" long, and the pads are 3 1/4"X 1 3/8". It looks like  very shallow pad angle but for reference its a Bear's Paw (Neil Jacobsen) riser.

I'll try to get pics up in the next day.

If you are putting longbow limbs on it you will want a shallower pad angle IMO .  I built some for an ILF recurve riser and it was hard to get the tips far enough forward.  Ended up with a lot of curve in them...

VPA sells the ilf riser inserts, and I've used the same ones sold on ebay for a build I did. I killed a buck with that bow, so I can say that they do work, you just want to make sure your grub/LLA screws won't strip.
