Well the first weekend has been hot but we are seeing deer. My son Brian is on his first deer hunt, using a bow that 4 point made for the bow trade this year and got a doe this morning. His first deer ever. He saw a huge buck rubbing a tree out of the same stand yesterday but it was 70 yards out. I think he is hooked. High double lung that hit the offside shoulder and the arrow stayed in her. She was dead within 30 seconds but went about 150 yards. I highly recommend Kenny's lease.

It is Marpat, issued to Marine Corps. Brian just retired.

Retired USAF, congrats on Brian’s retirement. I thought it looked Mil Spec, although a different pattern then when I was last in (2001).

Brian was a deer magnet! 20 some deer by him in 2 or 3 days. He had to head home early because his son was sick.

Quite a day today!!! Hoping a couple stories to unfold here ... :bigsmyl:

Kenny I will get on those guys. Another 1st deer ever and 3 out of 4 hunters successful. I had to come home with Brian early but I had 2 missed chances.

So Garrett and Tony hunted this last year and both came back. Garrett got his first Traditional deer last year and shoots nothing else now. He got a nice double lung on a doe Thursday morning, watched it fall. Tony hunted deer for the first time last year and missed 3 deer due to what we figured out was equipment. His bow was actually 35 lbs and we thought it was 50, so his arrows were not performing well. Kenny sold Tony a bow last year and Tony was very diligent practicing and this year he got his first deer ever on Thursday evening. Saw it fall in its tracks due to spine hit. Everyone saw multiple deer each sit except for me as I was dealing with a bad sinus infection/cough. I still had 2 opportunities and can only blame a branch on one miss the other was all me.
No one in this group was trophy hunting so everything was fair game and everyone had a great time. One huge buck was spotted and several nice ones. Tony and Garrett both had multiple ground stalks that resulted in misses or getting busted. Kenny is a great host and I highly recommend this hunt for anyone new to traditional bowhunting or new hunters.
-
Thanks Dan, I'm super glad to see young guys take up trad bowhunting.
We have ample targets to keep their interest up here I think. :goldtooth:

I had a great week hunting Kenny's lease. After getting busted a handful of times and more missed shots than I care to admit, I was able to harvest my first deer! I'm absolutely hooked, and will look forward to our annual hunt all year long. The first couple days were pretty hot, but once the cold front moved in we were seeing deer left and right. It didn't matter if I was in Kenny's stands or in my saddle, this place is crawling with deer. I recommend anyone considering this lease jump all over it.
-
Tell the story of your deer Tony. I think it is pretty cool.
-
Heck all their stories are very cool!!
Sorry you had the cough, Dan! Hope you are getting over that !
-
I am only cough about once every 2 hours now. lol

Just returned from Kenny’s lease, 4th year for me and Aldo, always a pleasure to talk with Kenny and share hunting stories. As usual the cabin is great. We saw a few small bucks, that we passed on, Aldo seen a real nice buck, that didn’t precent a shot. I was able to kill a doe early in the hunt, which was donated, we saw many other does, that we passed on. Another great year at Kenny’s, we look forward to
next year. We’d like to thank Kenny for the opportunity to hunt the lease.
-
Congrats
-
Thanks Ray! Was great seeing you guys again.
The temps caused Ray and Aldo some probs as the deer were mostly moving at night I think. Also food falling all over in the woods(acorns) so the deer didn't have to travel except for water.
-
Congratulations. It seemed hotter for you guys than it was the first week.
-
Made it back to Virginia from MO. Great time as usual. Always good to catch up with Kenny and talk archery and hunting. Both dogs visited us which was great as well, always good to see Lucky and Zwickey. We explored some new area and saw a good amount of does. Can't count on the weather but it was better than the last two years for us. Sooner or later it will be cool when we go. Good luck to the next group, if the temps drop there will be a lot of potential.
Kenny as always, thanks for the opportunity and the camaraderie. Already looking forward to next year. Now time to concentrate on the rut in NJ.
Shoot Straight!
-
Thank you Aldo ! Great to talk with you guys again! The dogs love to go visiting. I think Lucky wanted to keep Ray! :biglaugh:
Good luck with those NJ deer!
-
Such a good experience, combine the hunting with visiting with Kenny and you don’t get much better. Looking forward to stories of the other upcoming hunts.

Well, the 2021 Arkansas Assassins Kennym Lease hunt is in the books. This was our 11th hunt in a row. Every year they seem to go by so quickly. It doesn't seem like we have been doing this for that long. We told out wives 11 years ago it was just going to be this once in a lifetime thing. HaHaHa! We talked all the way home about which tree we were going to put a stand in next year.
We didn't take many pictures this year for some reason. I took a few and so did Noah and Darrell. I'll try to get some posted when I figure out how. It has been a while.
We had a great time with wonderful weather. The only I guess complaint was that it was really heavy wind a couple days. We killed three deer. Two doe and one buck. We all had some swing and misses. Especially Luke! I have to give him a raspberry because he got off the most shots. But, ole lucky was not so lucky. I don't actually know how many he missed. I do know he missed one twice! LOL
We saw multiple 120+ bucks. We always do. We saw a few even bigger. I set up on a really nice buck I found on the first morning of scouting. He was bedded with a doe. I set my stand that afternoon and got on it the next morning. I hadn't seen a thing by 9:30 except a bunch of squirrels. About 9:45 I heard leaves rustle behind me and I kind of turned my head to look at the squirrel but guess who snuck up on me from behind. You guessed it. It was him. I moved about 30 yards and hunted it two more times and never saw him again.
Sunday afternoon I missed a nice 8 pointer. He looked a bit closer than he was and I shot under him quite a bit. We had a lot of trouble getting the deer to stand still so we could kill them. HaHaHa. Monday afternoon I had to stop a doe and made a real good shot on her at 10-12 yards. She made it about 50-60 yards and I watched her pile up. Tuesday afternoon I got into my stand and got everything situated and just knocked an arrow and sat down and a little 6 point walked by at about 15 yards. I didn't even hesitate, just eased back my longbow and let her fly. He made two hops and looked back in my direction. Made two more hops and fell over. I was amazed. I had not been in my stand 5 minutes. I text the boys and told them I had just killed a buck. I looked up to admire him and he was standing! I about swallowed my tongue. I grabbed another arrow and as I was knocking it he fell over again for the last time. I double lung shot him and he never had a chance.
I bought an extra doe tag so I could hunt Wednesday morning because we were all going home Wednesday afternoon. I had a doe almost make it to shooting range but luck was not on my side. I sure hated getting down and going home. Back to the realities of work and other stuff. I have so much fun with my family on this hunt every year. I have watched my son and son-in-law grow into very skilled hunters and woodsman. I have watched my grandson learn how to win and lose at this wonderful thing we call hunting. In the past three years we have taken 11 deer home with us from Linneus. But to me it is more than the deer. It is the time spent together as a family and the memories made. What a great place! If God is willing I will be back again next year.
-
A pleasure as always to have you guys up!! :bigsmyl:

Got back from Missouri on Friday, had a wonderful time in Linneus! This is a trip we look forward to all season long and we are very thankful for the opportunity to hunt Missouri and share hunting stories with Kenny!
As always, the late season hunting was great (I saw deer every sit!), and we were able to take a nice doe off the south farm on Sunday evening, the first day we hunted. There were 3 of us hunting in the group and we bounced around between both farms. I had some exciting buck encounters on the south farm throughout the week and missed a nice 8pt. Wednesday morning (2 inches right over his back)!
Kenny - Thanks for all you do in order to provide these opportunities for us as bowhunters, we truly had a blast and look forward to coming back in the future!
-
