Has anyone noticed trail cameras not getting triggered with certain animals? Yesterday, I watched as a bear moved back and forth in front of my camera, probably 3 or 4 times, even walking up and smelling the camera at one point. I nearly got a shot at this bear, but that’s another story. After the bear left, I walked up and the cam took several pics of me but it had none of the bear. My theory is that the thick hide/fat on some bears doesn’t allow the heat sensor on the camera to pick up heat to trigger the shot. Does anyone have experience with this and is there any way to remedy it? It makes me wonder what pics I’m missing out there.

Can't say that's ever happened to me coz I get a ton of bear pics...camera is triggered by motion not heat :dunno:

Like mentioned above they are triggered my motion not heat.
Do you have the camera set too high? If the bear is that close he may be too low for the camera sensor to pick up whereas you would be taller and it would detect your motion.

We had 1 camera we had to monkey with, angle was too high.

This one is set at 3’ high. They can sniff the camera while on all 4 paws. I get a lot of pics of bears but it appears that some of them don’t trigger. Trail cams use motion and heat sensors so that the wind doesn’t cause so many false triggers.

Same camera 2 days earlier.

i used to have that all the time with certain cameras on a bear bait. barrel would be cleaned out and barely any pics. Something weird happens with bears and certain cameras

Hmmm. 🤔

Hmmm??? Maybe it's a Squatch....?? (they're invisible ya know)

Happens occasionally on our baits. Usually its user error but occasionally its magic

Camera is pointed too High plus its uphill from the animal, too. Put a finger sized stick behind the top portion of camera so it points downward.

Update: I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but it looks like my SD card is toast. It doesn’t explain how it triggered for me but not for the bear but, hopefully, the new card will fix the problem.

If the new card doesn’t work, I’ll try magic, finger-size sticks, and I’ll check for big foots. 😳

Just sayen, LOL

Now that’s a real possibility! 😊

I thought this was just my problem. Have checked several elk wallows that have bear prints, but no bear pictures. Plenty of elk pics. For sure I don't know why, but suspect their thick fur has something to do with it.

I was sitting in a treestand and watched a doe walk within 10 feet of my trail camera but she did not trigger a photo.
No I have an excuse for not having pctures of deer.
