As the title states, what is your plan for opening day? Are you setting up over a field edge? Hot stand of oaks? Tree stand, ground blind or ghillie suit? Any bucks or does you have singled out? I broke my femur and had a hip fracture (at 25) from a fall at work so I’m afraid I may have to live vicariously through you guys for the beginning of the early bow season here in Virginia

Dang Jon, hope you heal up fast.
Me? I don't have the luxury of hunting large tracts of land up north with giant white tails. I'll be hunting public land along the marshes of the St. Johns river and battling skeeters in hopes of getting even a doe or a hog.
Last year everything was super wet and soggy here. But I'm used to it.
-
I plan to be in a ground blind behind my house. I’ve had a pretty good 8pt coming in pretty regular there lately. We’ll see what happens!

I hope to be in my opening day favorite. A pinch point between two large fields. About a 100 yard wide oak flat. We do not have many acorns this year. This place seems to have acorns on down years.
This depends on wether my youngest daughter has a morning volleyball game. If the game is a morning game. I will have a evening hunt on a local wma.
-
Hope you heal up fast.
Season opens on September 15th, taking afternoon off and will most likely go to an oak flat on public ground looking for a doe to get things started.
Probably won’t hunt the family farm till beginning of October
Best of luck to all.

I'll be monitoring the weather and the wind. If hot, I'll be home practicing with the longbow. If it's cool I'll be heading north to the Manistee National Forest for some ground hunting in the ghillie suit. Sitting downwind of some fresh sign or an acorn flat. C'mon Oct. 1!
-
I plan to get the Texas archery trifecta. A deer, a turkey and a hog.
Chances are I'll let everything walk except any pigs. I haven't seen a shooter buck yet this year.
-
I’ll be sitting in my stand I put up about a month ago in the middle of a bunch of white oaks, have a really nice buck cruising I’ve got on camera past few days. Gonna be around 52 degrees. This will be my first hunt with a traditional bow and to say I am pumped is an understatement.
-
Not sure yet, if it's cool enough, I'll be somewhere...
-
Still have a couple weeks to decide what stand I’m hunting. Still checking the acorn crop. I’ve also got a couple more stand to put up.
-
I’m itching to be able to go out and scout for some hot oak trees, here in my front yard the oaks are loaded down so I figure they are that way in most of my haunts too

According to wind

I'll be in a ladder stand behind my son's house. There is a place where the deer have been regularly]][9 crossing the property for years. I wasn't expecting to be able to hunt due to back surgery, but it was cancelled because Covid has used up ALL the available hospital beds.
-
Plan to hunt two ground blind setups that are not expected to be too intrusive this is early season which starts Saturday. My hope is that a deer is dropped such that pup may be put on her 1st track of the season.
Will be hunting a good distance between both bedding areas and food sources Have two targeted deer of the seven 140 plus shooters on the farm.
Have many many more on the leased properties however, I restrict my own hunting to the farm.
Do have two targeted deer of the seven 140 plus shooters on the farm. Am enjoying the strategizing of attempting to experience close encounters with these hooved critters

Opening morning, ill just be getting off night shift rotation. So that morning I'll have my pack and longbow heading into the black hills national forest in south dakota. See where the wind takes me. Anything that has backstraps would do for me!

According to wind
Exactly what I was thinking!

Season opens here 1st week of Oct. so heat and wind determines where I will hunt my tree seat. Just going out for real is fine by me-haven't missed opening morning since I was 14 except for 2 years in Army. Best of luck to all.
-
Bear opens here on the 8th. I plan on being in a tree or on the ground depending on which bait is hottest. I had 6 different bears in today at one but it was 2 sows and 4 cubs. The bear population seems to be doing well up here.
-
Elk opens day after tomorrow, I'm probably going to go dove hunting, supposed to be 2 day full blown monsoon event up in the mountains due to remnants of hurricane Nora, might do a day trip Saturday to sit a water hole. Have vacation next week, I'll pack in someplace then.
-
Hope you heal up fast!
I'll be chasing whitetails around the house in a few weeks, can't wait! Likely in my Lone Wolf climber but maybe on the ground not sure yet. I'll just be happy to be in the woods with a bow in my hand. :goldtooth:
-
Bow season starts September 18. I will make my first sit on the fringe of my hunting area overlooking some trails that lead to primary feed areas. I'll pick the spot based on the wind.
-
Season opens this weekend here in Kentucky. However, I probably won’t start hunting until October after it cools off some. Maybe some of the neighbors will spook all of the deer over into my woods by then. :bigsmyl:
-
I'll make my plans on the fly. Might even sleep in. I don't have any target deer. Just looking to fill the freezer this year. It's getting pretty low.
-
Like Charlie, I'm nearly out of venison so not picky to start out!
-
HUNT :archer:
-
If it don't cool off by 40-50 degrees, I'm sittin' in the AC.
-
Sleep in, Charlie..... "after breakfast" Remember...??
-
I have a little spot at the NGT club and will be in my tree stand. Looking for the 6pt that I missed last year.
-
Well NY put in a anterless season for some WMU's and Long island is one of them so I usually get my spots ready in September so I'll probably set up some stands and hunt one of them in the evening hoping to get lucky,
-
I’ll set up 12 to 15 yards from these Persimmons
And Grapes are dropping very close to the Persimmon
Need a Wind from the South
Very common early season
-
Season opens here on Sept 15. I’ll hunt when I can but I’m going to be spending quite a bit of time scouting. I got drawn for a hunt in a county park for the month of November. Need to do a lot of checking it out. I’m allowed 3 deer but first one has to be a doe.
-
Oct 1 is a Friday... I'm working nights 10 hrs from 9 pm to 7am, Fri and Sat night same thing..... My opening day will probably be around the 15th or so.... My plan is to stick a deer with an arrow.
-
Opening Day, and all of deer season for that matter is off of the table this year. A few minutes ago, I was just notified by my cousin that EHD is rampant in my area. A lot of dead deer within a 2 mile radius of my place. The state is asking everyone to not hunt in affected areas this year. So bummed, but just have to let nature runs her course.

If I wait till it cools off in Florida it could be December. Then the gunners are out.
Lots of water ( cooler and in woods ) lots of Therma cells and change of clothes when they get too soggy from rain or sweat. Florida bow hunting ain't for light weights. I'll prolly sweat off a few needed pounds in the process of it all.
-
Opening day is Sept 18th her but I'll be out Antelope hunting. When I get back if I have a south wind I'll be hoping to catch a catch the nice 10 pt going by my north stand, the acorns are dropping there. Always playing the wind!
-
Up in the tree stand over looking crossing into 100 acre bean field. Swatting away mosquitoes
-
October 1! Can’t wait
-
Today was opening day. So I did something I've never done before. I went goose hunting. Two flew over and went 100 yards away in green field, 40 minutes later a solo cupped and landed in the water, 10 yards from my hide in the cattails. I slowly drew my recurve, and totally shanked the shot. Missed about two inches in front of his breast. I don't think I anchored. I think it's the first opening day shot I've ever taken, and definitely the first bow shot I've ever taken at a goose.
-
I will keep an eye on the wind. I only hunt my stands when the wind is perfect, otherwise I will wait.
-
Take a ride up the mountain... (Got a new Ranger side x side, legs ain't what they used to be...)
Find a place to sit..... Maybe take a nap...?? (Hey, I'm old lol)
