Title: Carbon Spine Help
Post by: Whitetail Chaser on April 30, 2008, 02:49:00 AM
I shoot a 53# at 29 Silvertip drawn to 29 inches.

Currently I get good flight from Beman ICS 400's, but that is with a 100 gr insert and a 200 grain point.  The finished arrow is 610 grains.

I would like to get down to 530 grains.  Do you think I can do this with a .500 shaft? Will they be too weak?? Should I just stick with what I have??

Thanks,
Brett

I think the 500 shaft would be fine if you just went with the 125 gr point. I use the bemen 500 and the arrow is 29 1/2 inch long, I draw 29 inch and my bow is a checkmate firebird at 50 lb at 28 inch draw. I have the 5.5 inch bannana fletch on the carbons.

Point Wt has little to no effect on a carbons dynamic spine. Go ahead try out 125grn points.
Your arrows should fly the same with the wt change.

You can probably get that weight with a CE heritage 150 (.487) with around 150-175 grain head and standard aluminum insert.  Spine should be close.
