Title: Dual shelf longbow
Post by: John Krause on July 30, 2021, 11:48:24 PM
Good friend, Tony Potter is making me a dual shelf longbow. It will be 64 inches and low 50’s in weight. Both shelfs will be on the same side of the bow.

Riser is Chechen (a Mexican hardwood aka Poison Wood). Limbs are Bocote.

I’m a natural lefty ( left eyed) who switched to righty because of target panic. Been shooting righty for many years and very successful.  Always shot lefty once in a while.  Somehow at 64 years old TP went away. Killed a doe last  year lefty. Now I’m pretty good from both sides. Who woulda thunk it.  Here’s some pics

Interesting concept to put both shelves on the same side of the bow.  Didn't know that was possible. I wonder if it makes it tricky to get the tiller right for both right and left hand shooting?  I assume you have to have two nock points?

I believe it will have a zero tiller. I do plan on two knocking points

That’s cool. Make sure you post finished pics. I’ve thought about one like that for some time. Couple bowyers i e talked to aren’t interested in trying it.

What is the advantage or disadvantage of having both shelves on one side as opposed to having one shelf on each side?

The advantage of one side it that the shelf can be cut closer to center with out making it weak!  More center shot make it more forgiving to different arrow spine !

Here is my latest dual shelf from Mike at Maddog. Shelves are not on the same side but still a good design and great shooting bow.  40#@28" 62" Prairie Predator

I have a dual shelf ILF riser.  Works great with ILF longbow limbs.
