A friend of mine from work gave me this tool today. He said that it’s pretty old.
He’s not sure what it is and neither am I. Anyone have an idea?

It has a stamp on the shaft that reads 7/8. I’m leaning towards it being a leather stamp, but it’s mushroomed on the end from being struck fairly hard.

Looks like a leather punch for scalloped edges or cutting out a " sunbursts".

I use one with leather

I’m thinking that it’s a leather punch myself. You would need to punch a lot of leather to mushroom out the end like that. It looks like it’s been used on something hard.
I guess it will be staying with my leather working tools.

You could always use it to scoop out melons or pumpkins.
Someday our kids are going to have to go through our "junk" drawers and ask "what is it?"

It looks like a tool to cut starbursts for leather work, and the other end may have hammer marks.
