Post by: Shawn Leonard on April 28, 2008, 05:20:00 PM
Well, it was pouring all day but the birds were out all over. For the guys who know my area I saw 8 different Toms by the greenhouses and 3 toms by dads house. I am gonna roost a bird Weds. night and see if i can manage a quick hunt before work. I hope my new DB is here by than. I may even be feeling sick by thursday morning, so Damon(Nomad88)may have some company!!  :bigsmyl:   Curt ya got to get up here for at least one hunt, I have not heard from Larry yet but we should have a good hunt!! You should call in sick Shawn and enjoy the day, I did a lot of hunting last year before work and all you end up doing is rushing, and that causes mistakes. Life's to short to just hunt the first day before work. Just bang in

Curses upon you, Shawn!  :biglaugh:  Here, after a killing winter, toms are scarce and (worse in the long run)hens invisible. "West is best." Well, not always. Enjoy. Dave

Why am I not surprised. Of all the game I saw in Shawn's neck of the woods, turkeys outnumbered everything else. They must breed like..er...rabbits up there!

I believe that dreaded "Eye" disease epic occurs within the traditional bowhunting communtiy when a culmination of factors occur during hunting seasons...    :scared:

The moon phase, the purchase of new equipment, weather fronts, and the breeding activity of the game being pursued triggers the onset of the "eye disease";  for example.

" I couldn't see going to work with the way those birds were hammering as that front comes in and the need to break in the new Double Bull Blind... so I took a sick day (for purely medicinal purposes... a mental health day, yeah thats the ticket!!!)   :smileystooges:

Enjoy them Shawn.  I saw 12 in my yard last week (1 Tom), 1 hen today, and my season starts next week.  You know how many I'll be seeing then!

I just spoke to Damon and I am going for it. Turkeys all morning and stripers in the afternoon if the river clears. Damon knows of 5 toms in his area and he kills a couple birds everyyear. This year he is hunting with his Arapaho only, a gift frrom his father in law!(Me!) Should be a great day!! Shawn

Had 3 toms in my backyard for over 2 hrs just feeding in the downpour. Seven hens the other day with one big tom came strolling by. Should be a good start to a "late NY season"....

I hear a bunch of birds every night from my porch. I am hoping to get out there "bow only" and see what happens.
Of course in the current condition I am in...I will be lucky to get one with the boom stick.
Let me know when you and Damon want to come up.
Stripers are doing well now...41" taken near Athens....
