I had one of those orange cards in the mailbox today!! I had traded off my Fedora for a couple of 50's style 'curves and they were in. An Acadian Woods 60" 55@28 and a Miami Valley 62" 53@28. Here's my Appalachian Elk Mtn. 58", the Acadian Woods, and the Miami Valley (top to bottom).

A closer look.....

Let's see some pictures of others out there. I'm really liking this style, since I haven't been able to get consistent shooting higher wrist "normal" recurve grips.

Here's one...............

Fedora is a good bow; and I'd say you scored.
Love the Appalachien who makes it?
Do they have a website??
thank you
Dave Guthrie used to make them in Sandyville, WV. Not sure what he's doing now, but he dropped off the radar a few years back. My first trad bow was a Middle Mountain longbow that he made and I still shoot it more than anything else. I picked up one of his flatbows last September and the Elk Mtn. static in January. I still need to find one of his Savage River takedown recurves, though. And I've heard about a short R/D hybrid LB called the Little Laurel, but I haven't seen one in person, just nasty rumors :(
All of yours are very nice.
I really like this style of recurve, I have a Kota Kill-um that I have been shooting all spring and really like it.

I've also shot the Fox Breed and it is very nice, also shot the Black Widow PSR and if the tax stimulus check arrives when I think it will (right around my birthday) I'm going to order either another Kota or a Breed. I may save up some money for a PSR in Tulip wood but I don't think that is going to be within reach. I also like the PSR in Graybark so if there are some out there that are for sale let me know.
Who makes the Appalachian Elk Mt? That is a nice bow.
Josh
Love the 50's style recurves very nice guys.
Those Kota's are sweet. I forgot to mention, I also have a Whisperstik 56" on the list, should be here this summer. That'll cover me from 56"-62" on the recurves, plus my flatbow at 64" and my longbow at 66". Gonna have to come up with a new excuse for the CFO ;)
I had an Ancient Spirits Kadiak that was the stuff. My favorite was a Chaparral Alpine that I sold to Ray Hammond.
I had a Robertson Peregrine and it was a sweet bow. If it were a couple of pounds lighter, I'd probably still have it. I'll have another 50's style curve someday.
I have a bunch of the 50's & 50's style recurves. Some of my favorites for performance are the GN Ghosts...Doc

Ask for Tim if you call...very nice guy.
I'm trying very hard to not call him for another Kill-um...but the tax rebate is going to be tuff not to spend on one.
Josh
Hey, thanks for the info, while i was messing around on pow wow, someone just bought one for 325.00 on classifieds.
Left to right, McCullough 59er, '55-'56 double-shelf Kodiak, '60 Kodiak Special. I have another 59er on order and I'm always on the look-out for another '50s style bow.

don't have pictures, but I shoot 2 Ancient Spirits kadiaks, a Kohannah kurve, and a little bighorn. All sweet bows.
I would love to have a 50s style recurve.... If you have one for cheap let me know.
Need to learn how to post pictures, have a Robertson Peregrine that I have had for about 20 years 60" very smooth, fast and quiet. Can switch from my longbow and the peregrine both shoot a lot alike. The Black widow psr is also a good bow but a little louder.
I just recieved my Navajo Diamond from Roy Hall this past week and its the best feeling bow I've ever had in my hands. I am done looking for any other style recurve. Love the feel of the 50's style grip.I can't shoot a high or mid style very consistant. I would put some pics up but dont have any as of yet. Jason
Personaly, I like the Horne Mountain bow in the t/d model. Little twist on the 50's style curve.
ason,
I'm with ya there. I've tried a bunch of "recurve" grips and couldn't get consistent, but when I got my Appalachian, I was hooked. Guess that's what I get for learning on a longbow.
Well i couldnt stand it anymore. I had placed an ad on classified looking for a shrew recurve, with no results. SO today i ordered a kota killum. He had one in stock 48#,rosewwod riser with black and red stripes, bamboo cores, curly myrtle lams and proghorn tips. cant wait to see and shoot it.

Curly Myrtle lams...I talked to him earlier this year and he mention the dark Myrtle lams he had and I want that on a bow...please post a picture as soon as you can. What was the damage? Sounds like there were some upgrades.
I'm jealous to say the least...if you don't like it please let me be the first on the list for potential buyers.
Josh
The damage was 600.00, He had made this bow for himself, but wanted 52# so he was willing to sell it. compared to other bows, with all the extras it seems like a pretty fair price.
Got a Beautiful Horne Mountain Curve on the classifieds listed just while ago. can send pics.
thanks, Froggy
Sounds like a heck of a deal on that Kill-um. Let us see pics when it gets there.
Here's a picture of my last Robertson Peregrine...all Elm 60" 59#@28 with sheep horn tips. I used to be stronger 15 years ago  Doc
