I came across something when I was searching the DNR website for ordering trees. It caught my interest with an endangered butterfly and an offer of plantings to help it as it only lives on 1 food source. I researched that plant and low and behold find out deer love it! (yeah yeah I want to help the butterfly come plant 5 acres of this stuff! HHahahah)
So I emailed them and was turned down due to my location, but they would come in and do prarie plantings. At first I wasn't too excited about it, but then realized that the tall grass is excellent bedding. Something I am in short supply of in the immediate area.
Anyone ever had dealing with them? Any regrets if you have ever done it? I am just concerned of letting their foot in the door so to speak.
Be careful when you halp an endangered species it could make you property off limits.Kip
When I lived in South Texas, I worked for the Soil Conservation Service would give out seed for food plots and there were no string attached.
But be warned. Kip is correct. An endangered animal, bug or even a plant can put your property off limits to even the owner. They can make you fence it off and stay off of it completly. Could be a risky move if done the wrong way. Gapmaster
The prarie plantings are not for the endangered. They seem to just want to replace the natural state anywhere landowners will let them. I was turned down for endangered stuff. Thanks for the caution though.
Yes Steve I saw that after I posted.Just be careful with which agency you deal with.The Soil Conservation that Tex Mex mentioned is great and they will help.I sell wetland mitigation credits and deal with the Corps of Engineers and they like many Govt. agencies can have blinders on and no common sense sometimes.Steve how many arrows are you bringing to Canada just checking Barry said just one so I guess that is what I will do.Man I am getting excited.Kip
