Title: Static range target matl
Post by: anchorman on May 16, 2021, 12:07:50 PM
Sorry in advance if wrong spot for this
..archery club I'm a member of  we are trying.to.figure out how to cut down on number of times a year we have rebuild the target butts. Right now just using compressed fiber board. Due to cost we are looking into using something else that will hold up too. Was wondering what other clubs or shooters use and how long it will last I know nothing is a guarantee on longevity but looking for ideas and suggestions thanks...

If you go to a carpet store, chances are they’ll have big pieces of plastic laying around that came off rolls of carpet.  Same thing with mattress stores. They seem happy to get rid of them.  You can stuff them in burlap bags and they will stop a lot of arrows.

Yep plastic bags work pretty well.
Flat target face x2 from sportsman warehouse
1 elk 1 bear, stitch together and viola.
 Worth a try.
Otherwise it's hay bales for me.

A big round bale lasts a long time - sometimes I make cardboard deer cut outs to pin on them.  Sometimes I just pick a spot.

Compressed bales from Tractor Supple strapped together will last a long time.  The center has to be filled with foam or rolled up matting.
