I hate turkeys. They are my nemesis! I have tried for the last 5 or 6 years to kill a turkey with my bow to no avail. I live in Northeastern Illinois, and we have a very very small population here. We were the last place in Illinois to be restocked with turkeys. Still, their numbers are slowly increasing, but I just can't seem to get the job done. They are always either on properties I can't hunt, or when they are on my properties, I can't call 'em in! Anyone know of a good website or something that gives calling demonstrations? My calling sounds like a black bird getting eaten by a snake.
No expert here.
What i have learned over the years is knowing the general "routes" turkeys use is far more important than "perfect" calling.
Sounds like a difficult area your hunting, with so few birds. Your probably doing everything right, just not many birds to hunt.
The Drury Outdoors produced a great CD, called Masters of the sounds.
Best of luck to you.
