I'm just about done with my next bow. Brace is 6" I'm 53#@24" (belly side of handle)...anyway.. as I was working the limbs & did some shooting I saw that the handle just at the glue line at the fade is pulling apart... so far I just saw it at the lower limb. I put glue in there and I'm waiting for it to dry before I check the other limb.
if the glue doesn't work should I just drill and set in dowls or replace the handle area... I got a piece of Ipe ( handle size piece ) or should I just use that?
I had a bow do this. It was due to too much flex in the handle area.
I agree with Razorsharp. Unless you starved the joint of glue, a slight bend(flex) in the handle area is usually the cause of a handle popping off...or beginning to delam. One method I have used, if it doesn't flex too much, is build up the handle with 3 or 4 thin lams of graduating lengths. This type of riser seems to flex a little and will help prevent riser separation from the bow. Pat
