I bought a Grizzly G0512 - 6" x 80" Edge Sander w/ Wrap-Around Table years back and it had some issues.
The press board Table top with Formica lam. was not flat.
The angle brackets to hold the table top to the machine were warp because of the long slot punched in it.
So I got some 1 x 1 x 1/8" angle aluminum, carriage bolt 50 I think, nuts.
I drilled the holes and bolted the angle alum. to the bottom. look close on the 2nd picture and you can see some.
For the warped angle bracket I welded a 1/4" x1-1/2" to make it like angle iron and 4 turn buckles 2nd picture, The angle alum. for the turn buckles is 2x2 x1/8"
The table was design to be raised and lowered, BUT for how I wanted to use mine I saw no need to raise the table.
The table is nice and flat and square to the sanding belt.

Shweet... Kinda looks like you know what your doin...
I swear... Most like everything else made nowadays... It looks good but the quality sucks... I bought a Jet standing drill press bout 5 years ago... Very disappointed in the quality... Did not see any difference in that one and a harbor freight one... Wait... There was a big difference... The Jet one was twice the price... :saywhat:

Yeah I took my hook and loop of my baby drum sander too

Nice fix Max  That was a lot of work for a new machine! I don't think I have ever bought a woodworking machine that did not have some slop, runout or lack of flatness. I think that why I started making my own. If they are going to be flawed, they might as well be cheap also :)

Good idea. Adapt and overcome.

Now that's funny right thar:)

I'm a fabricator too, but sort of a different kind! :)

What kind is that Longcruis :)

What kind is that Longcruis :)
My best guess is that he recalls a lot of great stories ... and some of them are even true :deadhorse: !

All my stories are true right down to the smallest details. :nono:

Cool mod!
When I first got mine I was really frustrated and couldn’t understand why a brand new machine wouldn’t have a table that was square to the platen.

It's all about the $ and they don't care

I was in a hurry to get this machine put together when I got it, so I went down to Lowes and all they had was the----- 1 x1x 1/8 alum. angle.
If I was to do it again I would use 1-1/2" angle.
But this is holding up good

And here all this time I thought you was a real fabricator?
Using weak aluminum instead of steel angle iron.
Priceless:)

He'll never get into the union. :)

Thats a great idea!
Your sander got the platen on that side?

Mine only has it on the other side, nuthin behind the belt on the off side
-
Same thing wif mine.
Mark you have those bracket placed on the back side, right?
-
Mine only has it on the other side, nuthin behind the belt on the off side
Sorry I did not answer your question
The picture is the back side with no platen.
I put the angle alum. on both sides

Been thinking, I've never ever checked mine for square.
DUH...
I'm gonna but for my bows I don't need to get down to them .025 things Kenny talks bout:)
One thing I don't like about mine is the guard over the drive pulley.
It hampers me when trying to even up both sides of a bow, I have to turn the bow upside down to get the other side then I can't see the line.
So I have to hold the bow at an angle to get the other side.
Been thinking about cutting the front part off then put hinges on it to swing it back into place.

I'm going to say you Graphite pad on the platen is wore out.
My guard only has 1 loose bolt in it, I can swing it back out of the way to sand the limb profile

I'm going to say you Graphite pad on the platen is wore out.
Why?
-
Because of friction
-
Nothing wrong with it.
Ah crap I just took out the bolt you are talking about,, awesome.

Same sander, same issues. Haven’t fixed it yet but will. Total PIA. I took the guards off and I do use a big plastic collection hood on the end. Not a well designed machine. But it runs a belt so..
-
I will post a picture of the other side today, Underneath

My works fine, the problem was me.

I’m no sure if the platen is really needed, but I replaced the one on my machine last month. The new platen was less than $30 shipped.

I press a rough riser block against the sanding belt up off the table until it cleans up to make a flat surface, then I put that flat surface on the table and press the side of the rough block against the belt until it cleans up, Now I have 2 sides square to each other. Now I can go to the band saw or thickness sander to remove more to get the riser block to size.
With my table being square to the platen it's the best way for ME to square up a riser block.
All that friction from the back of the belt will wear out the platen pad in that area over time, like walt said 30.00 will fix it.
I checked my platen pad with a square a couple years ago and it needed replacing
I guess I use my edge sander different than some of yeese guy's so you may not have that problem

Walt
The belt sander in the Machine shop I worked in just had a bare platen on it, no pad, over many years of use the platen was not flat.
