Title: Fletching cement compatible with poly?
Post by: Apex Predator on April 24, 2008, 09:47:00 AM
I'm building my first woodies and have stained them and sealed them with polyurethane.  What fetching cements are compatable?  I have fletchtite platinum and CA gel, which I prefer to use if it will work.  I'm using wipe-on for one dozen and spray for another.  The wipe-on says to wait 3-4 hours between coats, but doesn't mention cure time.  The spray on says to re-apply subsequent coats within two hours, or to wait a minimum of 72 hours if longer than two.  The spray on says it is fully cured after 24 hours!  I am confused.  Anyone else use this stuff?

I paint my carbons and seal them with poly. I use goat tuff and it holds good. Tried Fletchtite and Saunders and they didn't hold very good. Lost a few feathers.

Duco works great over Poly.

I'll second the duco, but I've also learned to be patient and let that poly dry at least a few days before gluing up.

If you can stand to give the poly a few days to cure up, that is best.  I've been told it takes a week for it to fully cure.  Duco works great on poly for both nocks and fletching, you can't pull them off. 97 cents a tube at Walmart; get a glue bottle from your supplier with your next order.  I've never tried CA or the Platinum.
