Title: Acquiring New Bows In 2021
Post by: Friend on January 18, 2021, 11:20:20 PM
The expectation of receiving a new bow propagates elevated anticipation and remains a thrill which brings elevated anticipation.

The preconception and contemplation have been quite stirred with a new Bob Lee Ultimate projected to be delivered in February.

Are there many others anticipating a new bow this year?

No additional bows in the stable.  Three of the four I have and shoot are no longer being made, so I'll hang on to them.  It's still a treat to shoot the bows I love.

I just received a new to me Toelke Super D.  Very happy with it so far.  I don’t have plans to buy any more bows in 2021, but I feel like I might have said that last year before I bought/sold/traded several!   :biglaugh:

Yes! There is an extremely special  Tall Tines recurve on order.  I don't see any bow i will ever own having more meaning than this on. The wife got it has a wedding/birthday/christmas gift.  It will be 45@28.  Will be engraved with interlocking hearts with our names in them our wedding date under that. Above them the bows name "lovebird" the string will be our two girls favorite colors (purple and pink) the limb bolt screws will be antler bases from a set of sheds my grandpa found and made into rattling antlers.  The quiver will be laser engraved with picture that my dad drew.  It might be difficult to take it into the brush and risk getting a scratch! Im planning on shooting the new greenwood arrows out of it but will have tk see what it likes best. Going to be a long wait until summer.

Picked up a Martin Mamba last weekend.  Just ordered a string for it from Daniel at HCB.
Randy (Primal Tech bows) has my longbow limbs done.  I need to get my riser to him to get them fit up.  I'd like to be able to just switch limb sets for different rounds at TBOT shoots this year.  Assuming they don't get canceled of course.
I have no plans for any other bows but I tend to stay flexible on things like that.

I talked to Steve last week at Northern Mist and he was finishing up my bow.... so I should get it soon. Been a long wait, since April, but I know it is worth the wait. It is a Ramer with Flame Birch and antler tips. At 74 yrs old this could be my last one and I am blessed to have a Silvertip recurve and now a quality longbow... something special about carrying a longbow...

I was supposed to pick up my Northern Mist Skanee at the Trad Bow Expo in Kalamazoo, but those plans have changed with its cancelation.  It's a 66" bow 55# @ 28".  Osage riser with flamed birch veneers and bamboo cores, but since Steve has to ship it, I decided to have him build me an extra set of limbs that will make a 60" bow, and 45# @ 28" and having these done with Osage veneer.

I´m waiting for my Dryad ILF bow to arrive. Ultra light mountain hunter 17" with long recurve limbs. Boy the international shipping is weird now, the bow went from Texas to Illinois, back to Texas and from there it went to Japan and is now headed to (hopefully) through Netherlands to Finland. I´m super anxious to get the bow as it may get here in time for me to hunt the winters grouse season here in Finland.

Nope. Saving up to buy a farm.

My bows work fine for now.
While I enjoy the anticipation of receiving a new bow, I have the desire to become the best shot I can be,  and for me I think that means shooting the same bow regularly.

So no new bows for me forever!
( that line was for you Chase) who am I kidding I love getting a new bow.  But maybe someday I will find that one special bow.

I had a few different bows on my mind for this year, but am now leaning towards investing into arrow making material pretty heavily and getting back into making wooden arrows. I have been saying that I was going to do it for years, and with the state of things, no time better than right now.

It kinda floored me when I found out, but I'm super stoked that I have two customs for the same person in the same province, from the same era of Robertsons.

I’ve been pretty blessed the last few months. I wanted a Shrew bow for several years and right around New Years I received my new Shrew autumn gold classic hunter II..... bought some nice new arrows and a nice back quiver (my first) today. Yesterday I was fortunate enough to get a rifle I’ve wanted forever and never thought I’d ever have. Not to be greedy but I do want a new ASL this year..... give it a try. 2021 is off to a pretty good start other than my back and knees  :biglaugh:

Mr. Bob Lee’s traditional ingenuity will be its solid foundation as it will be brought to life by the skill and passion of the two Bob Lee generations.

How fitting it is to be receiving a Bob Lee Ultimate as Mr. Bob Lee was the Ultimate for many of us.

Use to make a bunch of Bob Lee Hunter's but my copies were 62". Still have the form in shed somewhere. Fast bows and at 62" they were a bit easier on the fingers.

Always looking for a nice Fasco, Westbow, Drake, J Howard, Pearson take down or Browning made by Harry D. So, who know what may fall onto the bow wall?

two in the last week.

Yesterday I traded off a kodiak for a long bow for my wife.  "yep" making an effort to turn my spouse into a shooter and include her in my obsession.  I know the chances of success, but have to try.

In the interest of going up in draw weight, I purchased a Black Hunter longbow, 50# @ 28”. Bare shafted it last week and it didn’t take long to get the arrows properly tuned. So far I’m very impressed with it. It’s not a beauty, but the performance for the price is quite a bargain.

My son just received his Maddog Pup and started shooting it. Such a cool little bow—whisper quiet and super accurate. It’s 26# @ 26”, so with his 21” draw he’ll have plenty of growing room!

Started out the year thinking I was going to order a new Shrew, one Dr call changed all that, CHEMO is a tough rough road but a road I will cross.
I did find a 30# used Fedora 62" Viking long bow that I can shoot its working well as I am about 1/4 of the way through my treatment.
I will post up a pic when I take a few.

Still have my stash money for when I come out the back of this treatment, then new bow time still going to be a Shrew.

Thanks Doug, I have been shooting the 66" limbs mostly, getting ready to head to Colorado in September.  As with all of Steve's bows they shoot great, but I am really liking this take down model.  I'm very impressed at how quick it is and how hard it hits the targets.  I shot a 3-d course Saturday with the 45# limbs, and was very impressed with those as well, can't wait to try those out on a whitetail.

I went a little different route.  I ordered a blank from KennyM - so I've got a bit of work to do.  Kenny was GREAT to work with and I'm really pleased with the blank - I'll get a pic posted after work.
I had some nerve damage in my bow hand, so I'm working on shaping few grips from tulip poplar blocks before I shape the bow blank, to make sure I have one that really works well....getting impatient to finish and short the bow.

It's also a HH. I'm old school I guess so I just shoot what has always worked for me. I just placed an order for a Nate Steen back quiver, so at my age I shouldn't ever have to buy another one! I have several HH bows, but I saw another like this that Craig built, so I just had to have one! Like I said previously, I haven't shot it much yet, but I can tell I'm going to love it.

Guys are aquiring new bows like Happy meals at McDonalds.

I got a new Bear T.D with a Bubinga and phenolic riser and # 3 limbs. Its got a high gloss finish. Its awesome looking and they do shoot sweet as honey.I added some #1 and # 2 limbs.Talk about versatility.

I also stumbled onto a really nice Toelke Chinook made for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundations fundraiser. Its got the XXX high grade woods.Schafer checkered the grip and it also has Schafers polished sheep horn tips. Its got that hierloom collector quality look.

Last but not least I found a Frederick longbow.Been looking for one for years really. You never see em for sale.Even though he built hundreds of bows when he was a full time bowyer and had a long lead time.I have run wanted adds for one for years and struck out.My 1st custom bow was one of his fine Weapons my wife bought me for Wedding gift.He got some training under J.D Berry. He was very talented and crafted a super fine longbow!SaaaaWeeeet!

Was able to assemble both Ultimates this evening. The top depicted Ultimate w/Carbon Cobra Curve limbs is 60”s…47@28. The bottom depicted Ultimate w/Carbon Cobra Curve limbs is 62”s…43@28.

The 60”r is to be setup for hunting this season. I did manage to run a couple dozen GT Ultra Light 340’s w/100 gn insert and 200gn point. Initial impression has me quite pleased. Draw was quite comfortable…Grouping from the first three arrows…. visibly quicker than one of mys hi performance design that is 52@28 shooting the same arrow…. most notably: the quietest recurve that I have ever encountered.

Haven’t acquired any for 2021. Been so satisfied with my chinook and it’s performance. But y’all have gotten some lookers.

I have a new Bivouac Union Jack coming in a week or so.

And placed an order for a new Yellowstone Hunter the other day, should be ready in a few months.

Pretty excited about both! I need something to look forward to these days.

The Crowned Eagle bows are sweet shooters!
I have a bow on its way I've wanted for a long time-a LH 64" 52# 1966 Bear Kodiak.

I bought this bow from Keith Kocher in 2015.  At the time I already had a Tall Tines recurve and a Blacktail VL that I shot really well.

I ended up selling them all in search of that perfect bow.  I have found and owned some really nice ones.

But about a month ago, I had the chance to buy this Tall Tines back. I did and am thoroughly enjoying shooting this 54# beauty again.

62”, 54# at 28”

The tall tines showed up the other day havent had a chance to get good pictures yet.  The bow was bought by my wife for me as a wedding a gift. The antler burrs and antler tip over lays are from my dad and grandpa's rattling antlers. Im ordering a custom string the will by our girls favorite colors.

Well heck I bought a Yellowstone Longbow earlier this year and it posted on here Pg 6 I love it so much I have Rich building me another one. I heard how smooth one piece bows shoot but I didn't believe it but now I do now it not to say my take down are not smooth but one piece takes it to the next level.

I guess this meets the requirements.  I bought this Tall Tines a couple of months ago.  Fairness in truth, I owned a it few years ago and regretted selling it so when the owner asked if I wanted it back, I was thrilled to say yes.

Very nice shooting 54# @28”, 62”. I honestly didn’t think I would ever shoot that weight again.  But physical therapy is a wonderful thing I’ve found.
