Title: Savannah River NWR wild hog hunt is on now
Post by: Cory Mattson on January 17, 2021, 09:58:27 PM
For those who may be looking for a hog hunt in the southeast
The Savannah River National Wildlife Refuge
Has expanded the off season hog hunt
It was just 10 days in March but check this out it is open now.
Study the regulations on the website
Some of the Refuge is in SC some in GA and you need the licensing to match
No WMA permit needed

They must realize more time is needed to put a dent in the population!

Here in Aiken, we're close enough to the Savanah River site that my gray hair is starting to have a bit of green glow :) There are Lots of hogs there!

Are the regs different at Savanah River NWR than on WMS's in South Carolina?
On the WMA's you can hunt hogs but you have to use what is legal for the open season.
Small game is open now and that means rimfire, #2 shot or smaller, judos/blunts (no broadheads)…..

The "incidental take" makes me thing bowhunting on the SC portions isn't an option.

Tippit that’s a different site. Talking here about the Refuge in particular.

Blaino yes a fair reading of the regs I think you are correct. This was a shotgun/bow hunt- it looks like they kicked the regulations back to the states. I already have a GA license and we have been bowhunting hogs on GA WMAs for 30 years with no issues.

The “incidental take” is just a reminder you can shoot a hog on all deer hunts.
