Title: Same arrows?
Post by: frassettor on April 23, 2008, 12:32:00 PM
I will be ordering ordering my 2nd black widow shortly. I am currently shooting a PMAV Recurve 54lbs @28 in. I shoot a 2117 cut to 29 1/4 with a 145 tip, weighing in at 550 gr. I will be ordering a 60-61 lb. Can I utalize my same arrows? I DO NOT want to go less then 10 grains per lb. Would I have to beef up the tips, or go to a different arrow?

Those arrows will work fine. With the same arrow you would be shooting a little over 9gpl, more then enough.

Tyr them with a heaver point and see. If you have to you can always cut some off.

I got a little ahead of myself. I meant to say try a heaver point and if they don't shoot good (weak spine), then bare shaft one to tune.

If you are going up 6-7 lbs, you will be lucky to get away with shooting the same arrow.  You will probably need either a stiffer shaft, shorter shaft or less point weight, and you are already 50 grs under your 600 gr minimum.  I'm not familiar enuf with alum spines to be able to make a good suggestion.

Personally I think the 2117's are plenty. If you show slightly heavy just add front end weight.
Out of my LB I started with 2117's and had to drop down. Currently using 5575's cut to 28 1/2 with 300 up front and penetration is awesome.
I curerently shoot these arras out of a 54#'r.
Going to 60# I think the 2117 should adapt easilly with the right front end.

You can add some braided poly rope inside the arrow,it adds approx. 30 to 35 grains to the weight of your arrow, quietens (?spelling) it down some and I have never noticed any change in spine. I shoot 55#@28",arrows cut to 29.5" BOP and use 28" of 1/8" braided poly rope available at any hardware or MART store. Try it,you'll like it! Shoot straight,  Rich

The arrows you've got should work fine!

I agree, those arrows should work fine. If they show a little weak, just build your sideplate out a bit to tune them to the new bow. 10gpp is another matter. If you want to adhere to that, you'll have to do some tinkering.

If their good currently than you'd probably hafta go down in tip weight.

As for the weight thing thats up to you I don,t care either way I've shattered the leg going in and lodged in the off side with a 480gr arrow but I'm currently shooting 570 outta my 58# LB of which I've blown thru ribs with the same bow and 450 gr arrows too

straight flying shaaarp BH's will get the job done with those arrows at what ever weight they come out at.Seems silly that 450 grs is enuff for a 45# bow but no good for a 60#er
