I thought i had my mind made up on a dwyer dauntless, then i went and looked at the tall tines website. Anyone able to tell me the advantages and disadvantages to short riser longer limbs or longer riser short limbs?
-
All other things the same, there wouldn't be much difference between them. But, all other things (designs) usually aren't the same. The longer limbs should be a tad smoother, the shorter limbs a tad faster, but probably not enough that most of us would notice. The longer riser will be heavier (usually) the shorter riser lighter. Does that make a difference to you? I buy what feels good to shoot and what I like looking at.

To get the best performance out of a recurve, the recurved ends of the limbs need to be bent almost to the point that the bow starts to stack. Short limbs will start to stack sooner than longer limbs. For a given bow length, a person with a longer draw length may need longer limbs mounted on a shorter riser to avoid stacking, while a person with a shorter draw length may need shorter limbs on a longer riser to be able to get the optimal amount of bend in the recurved limbs.
I'm not sure why a person would want short limbs on a long riser for a longbow. Maybe, as Orion said, for a little more speed?

A Tall Tines and Daughtless, is like comparing apples and oranges. Totally different bows. :shaka: :dunno:

I know they are very different bows i have onky shot recurves but the lines of the dauntless really caught my attention. But man those Tall Tines sure are beauts!!
-
Never shot Dauntless, so don’t know about them. But I have owned two Tall Tines recurves a 60” and a 62”. I also own a 62” Tall Tines Stickflinger. Between the recurves I liked the 60” recurve better. But between all three bows I like the 62” Stickflinger the best. I don’t recall what the riser or limb lengths were.

I had an Endeavor for a few years. Really nice bow! Wish I didn't sell it.
-
Get em both and sell the one you like less. But if you're like most, you'll keep both and start shopping for a 3rd.
-
Get a Tall Tines Stickflinger. You'll never need another bow, though you may enjoy shooting some others like I do. Still my #1.

The difficult decision has been made and a new bow has been ordered! Now the waiting begins. Wish I knew what spine arrow it was going to like soni could build some to pass the time.

So what did you ultimately decide to get?

Nineworlds9 I ordered a talltines. The dauntless is still on my mind and will be my next bow without question. Maybe at the next big life milestone. Turning 40 maybe? But for now i just couldnt get away from a recurve.

I always told myself no when wanting a new bow, so I know how you feel.
But the next one might be the one!
