Title: kid bows

I have a guy wanting to build his son a bow draw length at 15"  - 36" long  (5 year old)
 
Anybody help me?

Bout like roy shoots?  :laughing:

Have him make it about 5 pounds, like most of your bows are:)

Kids bows are tuff cause they are shorter, so they need to be way thinner and narrow.

Talk to jess stuart.  I made a couple of them but they were for bigger kids.  Also,  I'm not done learning about it.  :)

I'd make kids bows so they can grow into them, up to 45#@26" or so. At 15" that would only be 12# to 15#. Once they can handle 40# it will be time to upgrade.

PatB has the right idea, IMHO -- a slightly larger bow -- say 48".  With a draw weight of 12-15# at 15" and a bit more than double that at 22-24".  I've build a couple bamboo-slat self bows like that for friend's kids.

Hi, made one recently for my friends nephew for his 7th birthday. 48" long, 1" wide to 1/2" tips. Stack was 0.250"  1mm bearpaw glass(thats all I had) .004 taper, bamboo core and padouk riser.17#@20"

This one I got is 38 N to N 12 in riser. .153 parallel and 10 @ 15
And maybe an inch of reflex above the front of the riser. A twig over 5/8s wide.

I build a kids longbow with 12" riser and one inch glass and lams.   A .200 stack will give me about 18# @ 20".  You can get three  bows out of two pieces of glass which makes them pretty cost effective.  Good little shooters too.

Kenny, I make it 46" and a overall length of 48".  Two 1x48 and two 1 x24 pieces from each strip of glass.

My 36" NTN (37" overall length) youth bow, is a deflex reflex design, and I use a 10 1/2" riser, make the limbs 7/8" - 1" wide, and a .125 stack gives me a 15# @ 21" bow, it's about 8# @ 15".  I hope this helps.
