Title: Trouble mounting woodsmans
Post by: Dave Lay on October 26, 2020, 06:01:54 PM
I recently bought a pack of 125 gr woodsmans , and am having a heck of a time getting them to mount up true on long aluminum BH adapters. These same adapters do fine with zwickies , is this common ? I was able to get one out of 6 to spin true a couple others are close and the others no where near acceptable .
The adapters are new and I’m using new 2016 Easton shafts

I was having the same problem, but with glue on nocks for aluminum arrows. What I started doing, and has really worked well,is to be spinning them and as I'm doing that run them under cold water to set them. I haven't had one yet come out crooked.

Thanks, I’m also using glue on nocks , I’ll try that ,it’s just puzzling as the same arrows and adapters mount zwickies or other heads perfectly , it’s almost like the ferrules are off or something. I’ve never seen this in a lot of years of doing this. I was trying to save some money over buying VPA’s but I’m starting to think I’ve wasted it. I went ahead and mounted up a few zwickies until I get this figured out or get frustrated and toss em....

I want to say they had some quality control issues on some of the batches. I'm not sure how long ago that was,or if I'm even right about that.

I had the issue you were talking about with Grizzly instincts, and spun them while cooling them off to set them, and it worked. Part of it for me also was too much glue and it couldn't get out with the air also. I have some Zephys that have a hole in the ferrule, and that helps a lot with the air getting out.

I bought some Woodsman off the classifieds, but haven't mounted them yet. Ya got me curious now!

There are differences in actual finished sizes of inserts and adapters depending on manufacturer. I have had troubles getting points to "seat" firmly without wiggling around on the adapter. The only things I have found are to use a lot more hot melt in the bottom of the ferrule (without squeezing it all out) and let it fill in the voids, or change out the adapters until you find some that fit right. It's just a fitment issue but that's not to say there may be some kind of flaw somewhere. It can be really frustrating  :banghead: but you just have to keep trying. You'll get it eventually.

I've switched to VPA, the quality is excellent.
