Hello, I decided to take a chance on the osage orange board sold by 3 Rivers Archery and was somewhat pleased only finding a slight warp in the boards with a stained grain possibly crack in one. The crack in question runs 6-7 inches down from the envisioned tip and was visible on both sides of the board, one side was a little less visible.
Looking for some feedback from osage boywers whether they think this is a definite crack or just a stained grain line, I thinking if it looks bad I have enough material to pike the bow and not take the chance on it failing at draw.
The board is glued up as a triple lam at 64 inches, bamboo back and paduak core ready to make a nice shorty around 55-60 #

Also the stained grain lines is not visible on the cross section at the end of the board.

lay the profile out on the osage side a see if you can go around it?

That is a crack, possibly a wind shake that developed in the living tree.
Is the bow backed already? If so and the crack is on the belly I would fill the crack with super glue and go on with the tillering. Be sure to use thin super glue so it sinks down in the crack.

Yup it's a crack, like Max said maybe you can work around it with your bow profile and it will be cut off. Otherwise I would send it back!
