Post by: Longbow1415 on September 17, 2020, 04:21:14 PM
John passed, early this morning... 5 years ago, today, I was arriving in Cody to attend his one on one shooting school... I know I feel grateful to have spent the day with such an amazing man... he will be missed

I’m saddened to hear about John’s passing. He was one of my archery heroes and also a brother in Christ. He will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are sent out to his family and friends. Please say hello to uncle Howard for me sir !

John was one of the best men I've ever known. He was all about faith, family and shooting arrows. He called me last week to have lunch. I missed his call by seconds. I called back but got his answering machine. We attended his church for years. John was a gifted preacher as well. He lived a full life and will be missed by many people.

As long as I can remember in 47 years of being married to a longbow fanatic, not a day goes by without a reference to the wisdom of John Schulz.  His advice and wisdom will be echoed by longbow shooters forever.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  A few years back I got to spend 3 days sharing a table at a shoot in Mississippi. John shared so many stories of Howard Hill that I can't begin to remember them all.
That weekend was topped off with a shooting class. What a great time with a great man. God bless John Schulz.

Sorry to see this.  The article about him by Sam Fadala in February 1977 Bowhunter magazine is what moved me from recurves to a Howard Hill Tembo longbow that fall.  Still shooting that bow today.  God speed Mr. Schulz

1986, Howard Hill Tembo with my first black bear, Acme Premium cedar shaft and two blade Zwickey Delta 2 blade.  Bow was acquired in 1977 after reading Sam Fadala article on John Schulz in Bowhunter Magazine.

Just read a post that John's son, James had on his website called Hunting Under Heaven on fb. It has a picture of John standing on the shore wearing a "leisure suit." Gives me the impression that the man was so much more than an archer. Though I never met John, he inspired me to shoot better. Life is sure short.

Surely if anyone deserves the title of "Legend in Traditional Archery" it would be Mister Schulz. I saw him at an archery gathering and I sure wish I had gone up and introduced myself.
