Title: My DIY Pack Cart
Post by: Burnsie on August 26, 2020, 11:48:01 PM
Wanted to share the pack cart I built for this years elk hunt. Being the cheapo that I am, I couldn't bring myself to splurge on one of the manufactured models on the market. Made from Menard's aluminum tubing. I got a free 29er bike wheel that was set up for disc brakes from a friend, and used a hydraulic brake kit from Amazon, along with a new tube and tire. Inexpensive canvas saddle bags from an online tack store. I initially riveted it together, then my brothers neighbor TIG welded it for a couple cases of Nat Light. I've been testing it out around the flat lands of central Illinois, and it seems to work really nice. I need to torture test it some more to make sure it doesn't fail in the mountains.

That's pretty darn neat! Looks like pretty good engineering, wouldn't be able to tell it was homemade.

I guess that's all down hill or flat pushing huh?

Wonder if a guy could rig up something similar with a tongue and traces to pull with a waist harness.  Kind of a cart behind the horse and you being the horse.   :bigsmyl:

Very nice.  I wanted to buy a model similar, and though I am usually not cheap, they're like $800 configured like yours.  That seems too much for something so specialized.   I also like the ones with sulky like bars added to the front as a buddy is usually with me and that extra stability would help in many spots including lifting it a bit over logs.

Good luck on you hunt.

You need to torture test it and yourself too! Try it on sidehills and over logs and rocks and on steep stuff!!
