Hi All,
Does anyone have any advice on using garrapa as a backing for an Ipe longbow?
-
Never heard of Garapa wood until now. BTW, Garrapa (two r) is another name for ticks...,

:biglaugh: :biglaugh: ita a Brazilian/South American hardwood used in the decking industry.

Garapa and Ipe, It would be a double decker bow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CdVTCDdEwI
Get it, both woods are for decking
-
Indeed....have you heard of Carbon or glass backed Ipe?
-
I think Bamboo baked Ipe is the best all wood laminated bow one can make ;)
There is nothing better to back Ipe with.
my 2 cents

I have no boo near me at the moment and have itchy fingers

Hickory backed ipe makes a very good bow also and maybe hard maple/ipe.

Thank you Pat
Unfortunately those are hard to come by where i am.
Garapa stats look reasonably close to hickory (and I have some) so was wondering what would happen if I made two 1/8" slats of garapa as a backing lam for some Ipe I have. Do you think its tension abilities are sufficient?
