Anyone use Buckthorn for veneers? Curious what it looks like. The end grain looks to have a lot of coloration. Is it a decent self bow wood? I just pulled three trees out of my yard and I hate to turn useful wood into firewood.

It would be nice for veneers but it my crack easily while drying. That’s my impression anyway when making slingshots with it.

Thanks Chad, I’m gonna set some aside and see how it turns out. it seems fairly hard and was thinking at one time I read it was a good selfbow wood. I searched it and didn’t find much on it.

I've never used it but have seen some nice buckthorn selfbows on PA.
I would split that log in half lengthwise so it can dry better with less checking and be sure to seal the ends.
it would be better whether you make selfbows or lams for a glass bow...plus, you can see what's inside.

Sure do like the name though :)
