Title: Kansas Tom
Post by: ksbowman on April 18, 2008, 02:43:00 PM
Shot my Tom this morning. The turkeys around here haven't been vocal yet this year so I've been holding off on hunting much, only went out once until this morning. We got an inch of rain last night so I thought I'd try my luck again this morning.Got one talking about 7:45 and he was across the creek from me so I didn't think I'd have much luck getting him to cross it.After an hour and a half and using three different calls(box, slate and diaphram) I finally got him in  my decoys.I got 5 hens to come in before him, then when he stepped out of the timber he had 6 more hens with him.Didn't think with that many with him he'd keep coming, but he did.Shot him at 10 yards between my two hen decoys. He weighed 26 pounds with a double 8 inch beard.Unfortunatly he made it to a drainage behind me and expired in the water. He was so wet I couldn't get his fan up in the field.Palmer 57#@30" 2215 aluminum arrows w/Ziwicky eskimos. Great shot Ben. Congratulations that's a great looking bird.

This information may be too late but here is some information on making a cape mount for your bird.

Over&under,I'll get a picture and post it tomorrow, the second beard is about as big around as half a #2 pencil, but is still a seperate beard.                                            Mudd,The broadhead is a Ziwicky 4 blade eskimo.I use to use Ziwicky 4 blade deltas and they leave an even bigger hole.  Ben

Great shot Ben.  I'd say that was about as good of a shot as you could hope for!

Nice to see some hunting stories around on trad gang for a change.
