I was at a local archery range and decided to shoot the LH recurve demo bow and my RER vortex through the chronograph. Here are the results shooting 610 grain total weight AD trads. The whisperstik measured 54# @ 28" and 57# at 29". The vortex measured 56# @ 28" and 59# @ 29".
Whisperstik (54#) 182 fps (range 181-183)
Whisperstik (57#) 187 fps (range 186-188)
Vortex (56#) 176 fps (range 175-176)
Vortex (59#) 181 fps (range 179-181)
6 arrows were shot for each bow at each weight. The arrows weighed within 5 grains of each other. I was very surprised at how consistant the readings were. I guess the recurve is more efficient than my takedown longbow. Despite measuring a little heavier draw weight, in my hands the longbow felt like it was less draw weight. Probably a mental handicap on my part or else something to do with the recurve loading up earlier.
They are quick!
It is like comparing apples to oranges though, the Vortex is not a real hard R/D and well the recurve is well a recurve. I do not why it is surprise to you, that is roughly what i would expect. Shawn
I was more surprised at how consistant the readings were, not so much at the results.
I just happened to have both bows with me and decided to shoot both of them through the chrono. Wasn't saying anything bad about my vortex. I love that bow. Just figured as long as I had the info I would put it out there.
Hey pdk, thanks for posting the numbers on the Whisperstik. I was very curious about that and was hoping somebody would do it soon.
Thanks for posting your results. Interesting data.
Gotta love those Whisperstiks!!
I will tell you when bow is as quiet as Whisperstik and you talk about quiet, speed is not that big a deal... I love mine ... :)
Good Info Patrick! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your info Pat. See you at Whittingham next weekend.
