Title: Looking for a R/D longbow 50"-54"
Post by: Swiftspeed10 on May 29, 2020, 06:22:02 PM
I am on the market for something extremely compact in a draw weight of 40-45#.  I don't really have custom bow money to spend, and would prefer something $500 or less.  I was looking at the Bodnik Firestick and Ghost, both of which seem to check all my boxes, but they are listed as recurve bows (even though there limb design and string position at tips don't seem to be recurve-esque).  Does anyone have experience with either of these bows?

Any other suggestions for me?

Thanks!

I think Saulk Trail builds shorter longbows.  No idea about cost.

Check out JK Traditions Kanati.  The shortest length is 56", but IMHO it is as good as many higher priced customs.  I'd recommend you call him for details on what you are looking for.

The new Super Shrew Classic Hunter II bows produced by Bodnik bows are incredible it price is $750, so you’d have to collect a little more but well worth the wait.  Kustom King is stocking the bows now and there’s a list on their website of what’s available.  Same 30 year warranty as Bodnik bows.

Update:

I am now on the list for a Sauk Trail Kenu!  The wait time is around 4-6 months.

I know I want a brown or tan leather (or maybe beaver tail) grip, and something red and figured for the riser.  I was thinking maybe a red mallee or jarrah burl for the riser and a dark buckeye burl for the veneers.
