Title: Show me your home targets!
Post by: Green Arrow on April 29, 2020, 01:40:23 PM
We've had one of those big round foam targets, gotten from one of the 3D shoots about 12 years ago, and its ready to be hauled off.  I'm looking to replace it with something sturdy that could maybe handle broad heads too.  i'm not opposed to buy one or making one, would love to see what folks are using!  yall got any pics?

thanks!

This is  a new one we just received yesterday.  Obviously its a Morrell "outdoor" one.  I really like these as they hold up really well.  Pic is not too good but as you can see, we have some space to shoot in bad weather.  Gotta love horse barns with long alley ways......  I can get out past 30 yards in there.

I’ll try and post some simple 3D targets I’ve made from old carpet cut to shape then stuffed with the cut offs and then painted for a realistic look.

I have made as many as 22+ of these and have them set up on about an acre or so of property. Last Year had the men and their children come over for a shoot and fish/frog fry. Good time

I’ve got a few different 3D targets. Only 2 out right now but I have this styrofoam block. I’ve had it for close to 20 years. I think it came from a boat dock but it is great for shooting braodheads. I also roll it into the yard and pin balloons on it for the kids. Little ones get such a kick when they pop a balloon.

Foam block. It’s about 3’ x3’ x 8’ long

That is some good craftsmanship sir.  Nice targets.

Carpet is durable as well. John gave me a whitetail doe that has soaked up countless shafts and still stops them!

I have 21 3D targets I bought shot to pieces that were auctioned off after 3D tournaments, I patched them all to be functional, here are some of them. Here are a few of them set up off my 16' high deck for a treestand shot.

I have a " Ames you stuff it" target in the basement for a 15 yard shot, this has been there for 20 years and is still holding up. I shoot at eyeballs and tufts of hair all over it so it doesn't get worn out. I might not shoot at it for months now and only on of those those rainy days when I just have to shoot a bow.

I have a permanent Morrell outdoor range target set up outside my bow shop for day to day practice and bow testing.

Most of my shot up targets just needed some great stuff shot into them, some were pretty bad, I got this one for $5, it fell apart on the way home, I was able to fix it.The arrow shafts held it in a stable position while I shot foam into it.

Here's an idea for a good cheap lightweight target for general shooting.

I've just got an old 1/2 ton bulka bag stuffed full and stomped down with old shrink wrap off the pallets we get at work.

Since this photo was taken I've put inside another 1/2 ton bulka bag and given it a new lease of life. The old one had been outside for well over a year and was going good, had had 1000's of arrows in it, then my middle son started using it as his knife throwing target. That buggered it pretty quick, hence the need to re-cover it.

With no more knives chucked at it, my guess is it will now last ages before I might need to simply jam it into another bulka bag.

Best

Celotex compressed with full threaded rods.  I have a flat archery range beside my house that I can shoot out to 70 yards.
