Randy and I paddling in to chase some hogs. Well, I was paddling my kayak. Randy mounted a trolling motor to his canoe.
-
As we landed we were greeted by a dark fishing spider about 5.5-6" in diameter.
-
Saw good sign right away.

This wallow hadn't been used in the last day or so, but it was a popular spot for sure.

I'd bet this old rubbing tree could tell some stories.

This one's story telling days are over. The hogs have rubbed it to death.

"Paddling" out. :biglaugh: Randy wanted to see how long the battery would last towing me. About 3/4 of the way back.

I know Randy has some better pics of one of the gators. Hopefully he'll share those and more. We had a great time even though we only managed to spook some hogs. No shots taken other than a couple for target practice. Let's do it again soon!

Good times for sure!

Looks like a neat place to be tromping thru the woods!!!!!

Darren, Randy
That looks like a great time out there.
Darren, when do you not have a cigar?
-
Looks like a lot of fun.

Nice job on the story and the pics!

Darren, when do you not have a cigar?
Craig - when I'm inside the house, lol.
We had a great time. Looking forward to you making it back down this way.
-
Nice hearing from you Darren and great pictures! Usually do that during spring gobbler season around here a couple of times.
-
Good stuff!
-
All great pics but honestly, I'd have shot that spider.

It was a great day! Started off in the mid 60’s and was a very pleasant day to be in the woods and on the water! My main objective for the day was to scout a couple of funnels I had picked out on aerial maps. We went about a mile and a half down and the 2 spots I had picked look very very promising for some rut hunting!!
We also found 2 places where there was more hog sign and scat than I’ve ever seen before. It was pretty apparent that these spots have not seen any pressure in a long time if ever!
We saw 5 gators on the way back out after temps started warming up a bit. I got within about 5’ of one of them. Unfortunately I am not able to post pics from my phone..
we’re gonna plan another trip before the temps get to warm and put out some trail cams on the funnels and may do a little fishing along the way!!
Oh yeah, That dang spider was the biggest spider I’ve ever seen!!

Spider legs for dinner !!! Looks very similar to Granger, I need a fix.
:campfire:
-
Now that looks like fun.
-
All great pics but honestly, I'd have shot that spider.
:biglaugh: She was doing her thing in her own backyard. We've crossed paths with several copperheads and I almost stepped on a cottonmouth a few years ago. If they were in my yard it may be another story. In theirs, they get a pass. They have a difficult enough time not getting eaten by the hogs or the gators.

Man I can hack snakes. Enjoy catching and playing with them. Spiders and scorpions well . . . :help:
-
looks fun!
