Title: Thinking g of putting Diamondback skins on high gloss limbs
Post by: Flatshooter on April 24, 2020, 02:04:16 PM
Ok, I've put snake skins on a few bows in the past but never over high gloss limbs. Question: how much do I have to take down the finish to ensure good contact? Sandpaper or steel wool? Thanks!

Have you looked at the limbskins?

0000 Steel wool or very fine emery cloth should be enough so the glue will adhere.

I’ve always used like 100 or 120 grit paper and get down to the glass.  Then I glue the skins and rub finish into them a few coats. spray to “finish”

Curious, do you use Titebond for such skins?

yup! As a matter of fact, I just finished gluing the skins down. Going to wait a few days to complete the final trimming and then go to poly. I'm going to try the rub on minwax poly then finish off with the final coat spray.

Would love to see the finished product if you could post some pics!
