Title: Meet Brutus
Post by: monterey on April 19, 2020, 07:10:08 PM
this is a bow i started about 2 1/2 years ago.   It was supposed to be 55 to 60# but it came in way heavy.   I mean WAY heavy.  It Bottoms  the scale of 85# max at about 25"  :scared:

I'm not sure how i did this.  Musta grabbed the wrong lams without checking them.   It's a huge bowyer mistake.   It was a special bow for a vet homecoming so I did it over and it came in perfect.

It's been laying around for a long time . Had no idea what to do with it but the right person came along so it's being finished.   Simple bow, brown glass and osage riser.

Just ran the hose over it to whisker it so it's wet.   I want to seal it with shellac but not a drp of denatured alcohol on the shop shelf.   Will it be ok to seal it full strength??

Looking good Mike.

With a name like Brutus, I thought it was gonna have some buckeye in it.  :biglaugh:

Thats a nice looking Bow! Your friend must be Que' Macho!
You using Zinzer shellac? If so thats a three pound cut. Going to be ropey, but you can sand it out after it hardens. Zinzer makes a product called SealCoat, it's a 1 pound cut, dewaxed shellac. Its a great universal sealer/undercoater.

It is the Zinser.  I used it straight from the can on arrow shafts once.  It was fine but really don't want to deal with it on the bow.   Hardware store is just a few miles away and open but I'm super cautious because the wife's respiratory health is so poor.   Maybe I'll sand some wipe on poly in.

Hey, Brad, trying to figure out how it could be finished with olive oil!

More to come.

I can get it to about half draw.   It flings a 589 gr arrow faster at half draw than the 41 to 43 # ASLs that they are usually shot from.
