Anyone seen any spawning activity yet? I know turkey season is upon us and most everyone is gearing up for that, but. If I get to go down to southern missouri for turkey, there are some streams I could probably hit. I might even try and squeeze a shoot in before turkey season.
Anyone??
Weather has been too crappy for us to get out here...I CAN'T WAIT TO SHOOT SOME FISH!!!
Nope, water temp still below 50. Might change w/ nicer weather the next few days.
Thats what I was thinking RG. You shoot fish up at smithville lake? I did a couple times before. Let me know if you see anything goin on and we'll hook up and shoot some fish. Maybe even get the network up there for some carpin.
Shot my biggest buffalo upper end of Smithville Lake a few years back. 26 lber, had several pics taken and none came out.
I'm in NE Oklahoma, not too far away, and it seems like the carp spawn more around mid May around here.
Depends on what "carp" your looking for. I was at my hunting spot opening day of turkey season (06APR08)and the carpsuckers were already moving upstream on the high water (I hunt in the far NE corner of Oklahoma). Didn't manage to get a bird, but did fill a 5gal. bucket with sand bass. Squirrel season won't start here until mid May or I could try for a real fur, fin and feather trip. We have had a lot of rain, keeping the water temps low, but I think most fish that move up stream to spawn are more influenced by water level and photo period.
OkKeith
Man I can hardly wait either. Ice is gone in southern MN. I talked to a buddy of mine today and he said there is still 40" of ice in the lakes up north.
Not spawning here yet, but I went out the other day and busted 2 carp and 2 gar. 1 gar went about 30", the other, about 12". It was the biggest I have ever shot.
I shot him 1 and hit him in the head. My arrow bounced back and I saw him rolling in the water. I hurried up and shot again and hit it in the boilermaker.
SORRY TO HIJACK, but I kind of answered. :knothead:
Were you shooting in a stream or lake?
Lake. But it is a lake that gets flooded from the Miss.
Since I posted this yesterday, I went back to check. They seemed to have moved further into the shallows.
I had a pretty good day today.

Dang it all, i'm in the twin cities area about 1.5 hours north of Scooter, and we still have ice on most of the lakes, i'm beginning to think that my turkey season will be over before the carp are even close to spawning.
Smithville is loaded w/ big carp. A boat is the way to go, but have shot them from land too.
