Title: Abrasive Blade Question?
Post by: Flem on March 23, 2020, 12:35:38 PM
Hey, you guy's running an abrasive blade in your Table Saw, what blade are you using?
I'm looking for something with a thin kerf for ripping glass, recommendations?

I don’t know that you will find thin kerf abrasive that will be safe at those RPMs

Excellent point! Fortunately for me I have a belt driven saw and am planning on swapping pulleys to match RPM's of whatever blade I end up using. Also thinking I should make a zero clearance insert to reduce blowout.

Are you wanting to cut glass to a narrower width or are you cutting laminations?

we need more info. flem?
are you trying to get 2 usable pieces out of what width?
or just trying to reduce width?
I know one guy used a carbide blade but the kerf was wider.

I trim width with a boxcutter and a straight edge.  Faster than I could dismount a blade and mount a disc.

I don't know about anything for a table saw.
I use my edge sander for getting lams, glass, stable kore to width.
I keep tapping the straight edge with a hammer closer and closer to the belt until I get my width

OK, I need to rip 72"X 3.5"X .050 strips of epoxy/fiberglass composite, right down the middle with as little waste as possible.

I googled narrow kerf table saw blades. I don't know your size but found a 10" x 5/8" .084 kerf. :dunno:
Where did you get that wide glass Flem :)

Well, it seems that experience with abrasive blades on the table saw are nonexistent , contrary to what I gleaned from another thread :saywhat:
So I got all OCD on it last night and I think I have found an answer, which I will share in case anyone has the same dilemma in the future.

I have ripped a lot of glass...  Just use a high tooth count, carbide, circular saw blade...  With that you could use a small 5" blade...  I am gonna PM you...
