Those out scouting n stump shooting this time of year may look for morels as well. My buddy in Indiana found a dozen blacks yesterday. Seems a few started early.
Wow, that seems really early.
Still have a long time to go here. Lots of snow in the woods.
We've had a warm light snow winter for a change but it was white by me yesterday too
In TX you almost have to be standing there when they poke their heads out. Hogs get em in a flash.

We still have 2 feet of snow on the ground here, but I ran into the rancher down the road from me while checking my rabbit snares and my wife and I got to chatting with him and his wife and she offered to take us mushroom hunting this year to teach us what to look for so we're pretty excited about that. Good luck on your hunt.

That's awesome!
I'd like to get into this morel hunting as well.
Just so you all remember what to look for. :bigsmyl:
We just had the last of last years crop of Morels. I batter them (I use Louisiana fish fry mix), place on a baking tray, freeze overnight uncovered. Then bag them up and back in the freezer. When we want shrooms I pull them out and fry them up and they are as good as the day I picked them.

These can really side track a turkey hunt!
Especially when they are big enough to trip over!
People have been posting on Missouri Morel hunter for a week with finds.
I saw some may apples starting to push up today but no morels....

These threads have always got an exception to the rules....
AND , more importantly they remind me of the late Dean Torges, the original morrells annual thread starter.. What a guy and what a talent.
God's speed Dean
The pic was not from this year.
Oh, Burly I didn't mean my pics. were from this year. They were from years past. I don't usually find any till after the first of April (turkey season).
I got sidetracked quite a bit last year turkey hunting. Started finding these. I figured these are lots easier than turkeys and don't run near as fast.
Thanks, Terry. There is plenty of talk about turkey hunting and many bow pics, as well. It all part of the journey.

Wow that's a bunch of half frees. It's getting colder and colder here. Stinks!!
23 degrees here in Wis. this morning with a little snow on the ground. We need a big warm up to get the morels growing. Usually see them early to mid May. Good thing I start turkey hunting next Wed.
A fine/find day at our range today for my wife & me.
I'm with you doubleo still too white but mid may is usually prime.
Great finds everyone.
They should pop here this next week, snow on the ground today :banghead:
It's been cold here this week but today was pretty nice so I took a walk this afternoon. My first successful hunt of the spring.
I went down around the creek bottom on my place this afternoon and finally found a few. It has been cold here too including 28* this morning and heavy frost. I wouldn't have given a nickel on finding any but, they are starting.

First one for me this year.
Only one too after a couple hours of looking.
Sure wish we had them in Florida.
Its been a rough season for me, but I found some....[attachment=1]
Found a couple false morels yesterday but no good ones yet. I dont have a good place I know to find them close to home. Finding new areas can be tough. I need a road trip to our farm in S. Wisconsin
No pics but I found a couple dozen yellows this weekend. And we had a hard frost on Tuesday, crazy weather! Denny
Another reason I need to get myself back in the woods!
Found a few yesterday
