Im going to make a laminated longbow and wanted to know the advantages of this wood.
It's Osage
Not the best choice for a laminated bow other than for the riser or veneers. Osage is heavy and will be slow as a limb core for a laminated bow, especially if it's got glass belly and back IMO.
I hope you're not going to use a "good" piece of Osage to make a laminated bow.
I just wanted it for the riser. And I have all the osage I would ever need around me. Lol
For the riser is is sweet. I have a Morrison Cheyenne with Osage in the riser and am very pleased with it.
I have two ACS CX risers made from Osage; both turned out very nice. I too had a Cheyenne with Osage, it is an excellent riser wood choice.
Oh yeah, the advantages: very dense and heavy, has tremendous character-the more you use it the darker and grainier it gets. It is made in the USA!
Thanks
When you run out of arras, you can beat the bear to death.
I second Tom's answer! I've had to go that rout with a few man eating squirrels!
