Title: Military Arrow Shooters
Post by: Yolla Bolly on February 29, 2020, 09:29:29 AM
Some years ago, there were posts on this forum which allowed me to contact folks deployed to foreign theaters, who were in need of archery gear. They were improvising ranges on bases to provide some diversion/relaxation/mental health therapy from their duties.
I again find myself in possession of an accumulation of arrows and assorted associated gear which I am no longer using, but have long ago lost those contact to which I sent stuff.
Is anyone currently in contact with folks in similar need?

Wasn’t that someone from Michigan Traditional Bowhunters? I still have the tee shirt they were selling to raise money for equipment.

That was a long time ago....back around 05 or so...have no idea who the contacts are, or were, as the guy leading that left long ago to start his own forum that has been long defunked.

During that time Tradgang sent a ton of stuff to the troops in afganistan/iraq.....I'll see if I can find a pic to bring back memories.

Camp Cuervo Archery club was started by some folks in Michigan. I sold the t-shirts to raise mailing cost funds to send gear over to Iraq and Afghanistan. Can't do that any more but Camp Cuervo still exists and they are setting up archery ranges here stateside. Google Camp Cuervo for info. The contact person will be John Vasos.

On a side note I opened the very last archery range that was allowed overseas and it was on Camp Hansen, Afghanistan. It was a Marine base and it was my honor to open it up as I am a former Marine.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks, one and all. :notworthy:
I sure don’t remember any ranges at Camp Hochmuth when we came out of the bush in 1970. :archer2:

We had a little range and shared one bow when I was in Iraq. Glad those days are long gone..
