Title: What is your Opinon/Experience with this rest?
Post by: koger on April 14, 2008, 12:02:00 PM
Heres my question, how many of you have tried/ shot the Bear Hair/stick on type rest that looks like a bristle brush sticking out? I have never used one, but traded for a BW the other day with one on it. It shot great, with feathers or vanes! How durable are they? All feedback appreciated.

Never tried one koger, but I don't see why they wouldn't be durable.  I use a Hoyt stick on which is probably not as durable, and it will last for years.   You may have a problem getting another, however.

I have used the bristle rest for years on recurve bows. They will last a long time (years)for me.They are reasonable in cost and can be had from Black Widow and now 3Rivers.
I bought a mag handle Bear take down that had a bristle rest installed at factory 30+ years ago. It still works. I locate mine as close to the shelf as I can. I cant my bow slightly so that helps keep things in the same picture when I shoot.

If you are talking about the old Bear rug rest, those rests are great. Shoot with one for a while and you will probably end up liking it. They are also very inexpensive and easy to replace. There were also rests that looked like a tiny paint brush attached to the sight window. If that is what you have... well, I never liked those very much.
That being said, shoot with the darn thing. If you like it and it works then why change anything?

Used them back in the 70's.  They were durable and worked well....

I used to shoot the Bear rest which was mounted using a leather side plate. It  was somewhat "un-tough".  The Pararest, which is the rest I remember seeing most recently in some catalogs is made with a plastic side plate and is more durable. Both work great

Yup! Got one on my Martin Hunter - works well for me - though it is coming off after only 18 years!
