Title: Ramer vs Whisper vs Sprague
Post by: strigif0rm3s on February 16, 2020, 08:40:27 PM
Hey all,
Looking to get a reverse handle straight grip bow from Steve Turay at Northern Mist.
If you had to choose ONE of these models for the rest of your life, which one would you pick and why?
(Ramer vs Whisper vs Sprague)

Thanks!

I have 2 Whispers and like them very much. Never shot the other models. Just guessing they would be as good.

I have not owned any of the three bows you mentioned, but I shot the Ramer on several occasions. I want one! Both of my Northern Mists bows are Sheltons. Let us know what you choose.

Ramer, straight grip, string follow in 66". I have a Shelton, string follow in 68".

I own a Ramer, and recently traded a Whisper, and have shot the Sprauge.  Of the 2 that I have owned, I always seemed to grab the Ramer over the Whisper, both were pretty much identical in length and weight, and both shot great side by side.  I just seemed to prefer the grip on the Ramer.  I will probably end up with a Sprauge someday, just because I like trying out different bows.  Good luck in your search, give Steve a call, he is a great guy to deal with and is always willing to talk and answer any questions you may have.

Honestly it’s a tough call. I like the little added zip of my back set, but the smoothness of the Ramer when it’s -5 is much appreciated on my elbow. Thankfully and I know this is weaseling out of your question, but I don’t have to choose LOL.

Slight indicator on a superior vs an indicator on a Ramer

a 66" Ramer for me, for my tender elbow was much softer on shot than Sprague.

No experience yet with the Sprague but I do have a lot of experience with the Whisper and Ramer. I prefer the extra quietness and feel of the string follow bows. They epitomize the benefits of an ASL. IMHO the slight potential speed advantage of the straight or backset limbs just does not make up for the smooth of the string follow. That explains why the collection has 3 Ramers with more planned and one Whisper.

I just wanted everyone to know that I got a ramer and forgot to update this post a while back.
I absolutely love this bow!  My name is coming up on Steve's list soon and I'm torn between another Ramer, a whisper or a sprague. Tough choices!

I have 2 Ramers and a Whisper. It is a tough call, but I would pick the Ramer. I am not a bowyer by any stretch, so I can't give you  give you a technical reason.

But my heavier Ramer (62#) shoots where I look, every time. If I were in a situation where I HAD TO MAKE THE SHOT, that is the bow I would take. I have made it ugly with spray paint, bumps, drops, and abrasions, but it continues to excel as a hunting bow.
