I've ended up after all these years and all the dozens of bows that have come and gone - without any bow at all. A very sad state of affairs. With our abysmal dollar exchange at the moment (bushfires, China crisis and now floods), our Australian dollar is down the toilet. Consequently bows now are very expensive. Out of the nearly 30 custom bows I've had over as many years the best one that I always remember was the several Predator bows that I had. I contacted the dealer in Auss and tried to order one, but they are now around $1,200 AUD. That's well out of my budget at the moment. I got onto a dealer importing Bear Paw bows. I like the look of the 'Mohawk' recurve, but that with postage is close on $900. The one I ordered is a new model from them called the 'Chapman'. It looks similar to the Mohawk but has a shorter riser and is only 58" long. It looks just like the shape I like - limbs not too wide, nice pistol grip. It is cheaper because it is only maple limbs under black glass (not bamboo under clear for the Mohawk). That came in at around $500 so was within my budget.
However, no matter how much research I did could not find anything about this new bow called the Bear Paw Chapman. Anybody else have any thoughts on this bow? If not anybody used or owned the Mohawk? I did a lot of research and the B/P bows seem really great value for the price and come with a good warranty. Looked like lots of happy customers about - I hope that's the case?

Never had mohawk. Definitely done a ton of research on it and wouldn't hesitate. I have had the slick stick and it is by far one of the best I have owned. Wouldn't hesitate to order another one and I know for a fact they stand behind the warranty.

Thanks Petrichor - that sounds very positive. You are the only person who replied so perhaps they are not popular bows in the States because you have such a vast selection of bow manufacturers to choose from. However, here in Australia there isn't too much so I'm happy to try a BP bow. Mine is on the way so I guess I'll know shortly for myself. Thanks for the information.

They have an ok following here but I'm sure it wont disappoint. Let us know your thoughts when you get it. You going for recurve mohawk or longbow limbs?

No it's not actually the Mohawk. The dealer here in Auss put me onto the latest model that they have called the 'Chapman'. It looks similar to the Mohawk, but is only 58" long. It may be a bit more of a budget bow because the Mohawk has a 30yr warranty but this is one of their Penthalon bows, which only have a 2 year warranty. I'm not sure what the difference is with that, but it was only $500 AUD, which is about 350 US, so it was not an expensive bow at all. The Mohawk here was nearly $900. I really love the Predator bows and have had several of them over the years. However with our bad economy, bush fires and this virus in China our Australia dollar is down the toilet. Anything imported now is way expensive. The Predator bows here are around $1,200 AUD - which is way out of my budget at the moment. I'll try this cheapy bow and see how it goes. When I get it and shoot it I'll post on here and let you folks know how I get on. Cheers

I shot with a gentleman with a mohawk with longbow limbs this weekend. What stood out to me was how quiet it was. Probably the quietest in the group. His was a light poundage bow but performed very well for him with the arrows he had matched to it. I don't know about the Chapman but wouldn't be afraid to buy the Mohawk if one ever came up.

Both my slick stick and my hunting partners were the quietest bows we have ever shot. I am up for a new bow soon and the mohawk is definitely in the running. I shoot both hands and love how two risers and two limbs would give me 4 different.
