I would like to know what broadhead has given you the best performance on ELK
I will be shooting a 70# bow Carbon Tech Safari arrows and total weight of 720 to 750 gr
Thanks in advance
Bill
I have only used 2 different BHs on elk. I started with a Bear (new style razorhead-it didn't hold up too well when it hit a bone. The ferrel seperated from the blades) for my first elk. After that I have taken 4 elk with a Zwickey Eskimo 2 blade. Haven't had any problems with this head even after hitting big bones and a big rock (after a miss). One tough BH. I do take the sharp tip down to a small chisel point on mine, just to help it not to curl over. I don't have any personal experience with other BHs so I'll let others chime in.
Oh, forgot to say, I glue my 125gr. BHs to a 125gr. steel adapter to get it to 250 gr. If you wanted right at 200 you would use the 75 gr. adapter.
With your set up you could shoot about anything....but I would suggest a Wensel Woodsman on a 75gr steel adapter.....
If you prefer 2 bl...Zwickey delta with appropriate adapter......
I second what Curt said...
I've only shot one elk, but my 250g Woodsman CRUSHED him. He was a mature bull and I will use Woodsman on anything elk sized an up and Snuffers on anything elk sized on down. You could use BIG Snuffers with that setup
Bill,
I've had very good results with a 145 grain Eclipse and the long 42 grain b/h adapters. With the hot melt/epoxy, you'll end up around 190 grains. Very strong, they mount straight and are relatively easy to sharpen. They're teflon coated, but I don't know that it helps in penetration. Good luck on your pursuit of elk. Plenty of good broadheads out there.

Killed big bull last year w/ a 200gr Ace from a 62lbs @26'' w/ 560gr total weight arro.30yrd shot went thru the shoulder blade, centered the rib under the blade and stopped just under the skin at the opposite side.
Not sure if a 3 blade head would have gott'n that far,but darn sure now a 2 blade will
I've been using either Muzzy Phantoms or Razorcaps for a number of years now. I have taken quite a few animals, bear, deer and one moose recently. Both heads have performed very well but the Razorcap seems to put animals down quickly. I shot a 600# cow moose last year with a 60# DAS and a 340 Beman arrow tipped with a Razorcap. The moose took 3 steps and was down. I am sure a Woodsman would have done as well.
