A friend just gave me a half dozen Bear cedar arrows and I swear they are the best shootin arras Ive ever had.Is it just me or were they better grades of cedar back then?I dont know how old they are but they were fletched with natural barred feathers and a sinle cap and crest to match. To those who used to buy them do you find that they were better quality than todays shafts? They seem heavier than my newer shafts also.Could they be a wood other than cedar?
Thanks, Izzy
Hey there a old freind of mine gave me some old ceder shafts with just some old alum nocks that he got back in the 1930s when he just got into archery. Yes the shafts back them where way better. The reason being that the cedar came from older trees and where not green like today wood arrows. I would sell all my new shafts for the old ones from the 1930s up to the 190s.

Mmmm, that gives me an idea! I've got a couple boxes of old Bear arrows from garage sales that I bought because they had razorheads on a few of them. Maybe I'll give them a try. Thanks for the thread.
Your right HH. I just came in from shooting them and they flew great out of my 60# longbow. I needed some weaker spine arrows for it and I'm going to have to assume that all them older Bear arrows are in the 45# range. I guess I'll have to find someone w/ a spine tester and see what they are.
Watch the nocks! Replace them with new ones, as the old ones break frequently.
